    3. Why is Technology Important?
      • Technology is this generation’s “paper and pencil”
      • Every generation is different.
      • Essays = collaborative wikis and maintaining websites and databases

      • MySpace is the third most popular website in the United States and sixth most popular in the entire world
      • In 2007, MySpace had over 200 million accounts
      • According to the census in 1984 about 8% of the population had a computer.
      • 62% in 2003

      • In 1997 only 18% of households had access to the internet.
      • The figure in 2003 is 54%.
      • At this rate by 2009, there will 90% of households with access to the internet.
      • I would estimate that 90% of my students have access to the internet!

      • We have to be able to design meaningful activities where technology is the most attractive option to complete an assignment rather than the pencil and paper method.
