Creating Quality Jobs •57% of participants reported employing others or self employment for themselves •The average Women's Initiative client business pays $16.45 an hour in wages, over double  the minimum wage in California. This wage is especially impressive given that many client  businesses operate in sectors such as housekeeping and food service that traditionally pay  close to minimum wage. 14
    15. Giving Back •In the past year, 79% of Women's Initiative clients donated money or made an inkind donation, compared to 45% of all Californians. Donations averaged over $1,020. •69% of clients volunteer regularly 15
    16. Building Community Women microentrepreneurs not only create thriving businesses, but also support their  communities as mentors, volunteers, patrons and civic leaders. As business owners,  women are choosing to redefine success by serving people and the planet while building  wealth. 16
    17. Some Women’s Initiative graduates, from Day One, place a priority on conserving natural  resources, minimizing waste, and recycling. A recent survey of graduates indicates that a majority say they use some environmentally  friendly practices in their business, such as buying low‐wattage light bulbs, recycling paper,  and saving fossil fuel by buying locally. Others are doing much more: some have been certified green by a government agency,  others are practicing sustainable business, and others are innovating in recycling. 17
