                       Linear and Non- Linear Narratives

YouTube video walk through- http://www.youtube.com/watch?

For our Linear and Non- Linear narratives project we were put into a group
and we were all given different roles to make our story as believable as
possible. In my group there was Simon, Nicky, Dave, Matthew, Rory, Charlie,
Koyas and myself. At the start we had to come up with a strong story line with
interesting characters, and think of ways to make it seem real.

In our storyline, I was given the role as a bouncer at the Phoenix night club.
Simon played the manager of this club, and all of the characters were here
the night of Koyas’ death. For our first step, we all decided to create Facebook
profiles for each of our characters.

On the Facebook pages we were able to have discussions with each other
like normal friends. I believe that to an outsider, my Facebook profile would
look and seem very real. For example, I had Simon posting on my wall that I
needed to call him about work at the club, and I was also having
conversations on a Facebook status with Nicky about the Phoenix night club
apparently being closed down. On my profile page, I also changed my
personal information so it looks like I work as a bouncer at Phoenix night club
and that I got kicked out of school.

More features on my Facebook profile were the pictures that I had been
tagged in. On each occasion that we met up as a group, we would make sure
we took some pictures to upload to make the audience think we all have
connections and are friends or work colleagues. One below is of me and
Simon, this portrays us as work colleagues, Simon being the manager, and
me being his bouncer.

For our story line, we decided that the bouncer shouldn’t just be your every
day tough guy bouncer who is a typical thug as we thought that this was
boring and left little to the imagination of the audience. Instead, we decided to
portray my character as a bit of a strange person, who wouldn’t actually hurt a
fly, be surprisingly camp and having a massive obsession with porcelain pig
ornaments. For this to work, I decided to create a blog to show everyone my
obsession with porcelain pigs. The link to this blog is

For people to see this blog site, I posted links on my Facebook wall so people
could see my obsession.

Furthermore I was involved in part of the filming for the character Matty’s blog.
I am the bouncer outside the club and he approaches me asking for
information. This video can be found at http://partyhardmofo.wordpress.com/.

In the video on Matty’s blog, he is asking me if I knew anything about the
incidents the night before, after I see him holding a porcelain pig I tell him that
he can speak to the manager who is inside.

On reflection looking back at the project, I think that it went really well and we
would brilliantly as a team. We was all fully committed in offering ideas and
turning up to the different locations that we had arranged. Despite me being
filmed in just one of clips, I was there at the rest of clips helping shoot and
offering guidance and ideas to the rest of the group. Nearing the end of the
project, we was given an extra helping hand by a member of staff who
specialises in creating stronger narratives. I cannot remember her name, but
she took the class on to occasions and gave us advice on making our story
stronger and more believable. After meeting with her, we decided to make a
campaign page on Facebook to find the missing person. Some things that we

found challenging was editing the video clips and uploading the blog in an
order that made sense to the audience, it was only challenging because it
could be confusing but this was quite easily sorted.
