Pastoral Counseling
Overview One
This overview seeks to answer four major questions posed to students in addressing those topics
which applies to reading on Pastoral Counseling.
Topics: The Changes in Counseling, The Counselor and Counseling, The Church and
Counseling, The Core of Counseling / Pastoral Soul Care and The uniqueness of Pastoral
Counseling.
1. Out of selected reading what was significant or outstanding for me;
I must state categorically that this reading has been significant in many aspects; those areawhich
showed the depth and comprehensive nature of Counseling as it encompasses such a complex
dimensions of practice and principles. Moreover, illumination derived from closeexamination of
the variances, similarities and subdivisionsbetween;the Non-Christian Counseling techniques,
Christian and Pastoral Counseling skills and techniques.
2. Why these areas was outstanding or significant;
As reading progressed and as these areas became clearer, it then emphasized the need for better
equipping of persons in the Christian sphere to be better trained. Also for Pastors and other
Christian Counselors to seek greater empowerment from the Holy Spirit in order to adequately
perform this awesome task effectively.
3. How would I see and apply things differently in ministry as a result of this.
It is said that unless there is no modification of behavior learning has not taken effect. I feel
challenged as a result of this learning to adapt information gained through this reading and apply
it to those circumstances which may confront me in my pursuit of efficiency in Pastoral
Counseling.
