  2. 2. Classification Of Sporting Terms <ul><li>The sports council have identified 4 main categories of sporting activity. </li></ul><ul><li>1. Conditioning Activities </li></ul><ul><li>2. Competitive Games and Sports </li></ul><ul><li>3. Athletic </li></ul><ul><li>4. Aesthetic or Gymnastic movement </li></ul><ul><li>Come up with a definition of all 4 please . </li></ul>
  3. 3. Conditioning Activities <ul><li>Activities designed primarily to improve physical and mental condition of the performer. </li></ul><ul><li>Examples aerobics, circuit or weight training. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Competitive Games and Sports <ul><li>Aim is to find put who is the best in competitive situations. </li></ul><ul><li>Games can be classified into:- </li></ul><ul><li>1.invasion eg Football </li></ul><ul><li>2. Net eg Badminton </li></ul><ul><li>3. Striking and Fielding eg Rounders </li></ul><ul><li>4. Target eg Archery </li></ul><ul><li>5. Fighting eg Boxing </li></ul>
  5. 5. Athletic <ul><li>These are activities which include running, throwing, jumping. </li></ul><ul><li>It can be outdoor activities such as skiing </li></ul>
  6. 6. Aesthetic and Gymnastic Movement <ul><li>These rely on repetition of the movement. The body and movements are assessed and ‘good ‘ ones will be pleasing to the eye. </li></ul><ul><li>They will be judged by people on their performance and this is different to competitive sport and called Subjective assessment. </li></ul><ul><li>Eg’s include gymnastics, dance and ice skating. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Definition of Sport <ul><li>It’s highly competitive where strict rules are followed, there is a high level of skill and physical exertion. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Terms to know and Understand <ul><li>Institutionalised:- </li></ul><ul><li>Means standard set of rules and behaviour is expected </li></ul><ul><li>Officials regulate the activity </li></ul><ul><li>Skills are formally learned </li></ul><ul><li>Training is regular and relevant </li></ul>
  9. 9. Physical Endeavour and Physical Prowess <ul><li>Physical Endeavour : </li></ul><ul><li>When the body is working hard and expending considerable amount of energy. </li></ul><ul><li>Physical Prowess : </li></ul><ul><li>Outstanding or superior skill </li></ul>
