  • 1. Objectives
    • Go through last week’s task
    • Going to further examine sport and different categories
  • 2. Classification Of Sporting Terms
    • The sports council have identified 4 main categories of sporting activity.
    • 1. Conditioning Activities
    • 2. Competitive Games and Sports
    • 3. Athletic
    • 4. Aesthetic or Gymnastic movement
    • Come up with a definition of all 4 please .
  • 3. Conditioning Activities
    • Activities designed primarily to improve physical and mental condition of the performer.
    • Examples aerobics, circuit or weight training.
  • 4. Competitive Games and Sports
    • Aim is to find put who is the best in competitive situations.
    • Games can be classified into:-
    • 1.invasion eg Football
    • 2. Net eg Badminton
    • 3. Striking and Fielding eg Rounders
    • 4. Target eg Archery
    • 5. Fighting eg Boxing
  • 5. Athletic
    • These are activities which include running, throwing, jumping.
    • It can be outdoor activities such as skiing
  • 6. Aesthetic and Gymnastic Movement
    • These rely on repetition of the movement. The body and movements are assessed and ‘good ‘ ones will be pleasing to the eye.
    • They will be judged by people on their performance and this is different to competitive sport and called Subjective assessment.
    • Eg’s include gymnastics, dance and ice skating.
  • 7. Definition of Sport
    • It’s highly competitive where strict rules are followed, there is a high level of skill and physical exertion.
  • 8. Terms to know and Understand
    • Institutionalised:-
    • Means standard set of rules and behaviour is expected
    • Officials regulate the activity
    • Skills are formally learned
    • Training is regular and relevant
  • 9. Physical Endeavour and Physical Prowess
    • Physical Endeavour :
    • When the body is working hard and expending considerable amount of energy.
    • Physical Prowess :
    • Outstanding or superior skill
