Evaluation 4[1]
1. How did you use new media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
2. Samsung galaxy s4
I have used my own Samsung galaxy s4 to take the pictures that
I had used in both my Digipak and magazine advert. The camera
itself is 13 megapixels which isn’t a large amount however it
was good enough for the photos that I had taken for the
ancillary tasks. It is very light and easy to use with its automatic
focusing feature. I also had the option to apply multiple filters
to the pictures which meant that I could get the exact photo
that I wanted. There are multiple methods that I could then use
to send the pictures to my computer which I would then edit on
photo shop such as a USB cable, email, bluetooth and by putting
my memory card into the computers card reader. All of theses
available options that the phone gave me enabled me to
produce the product that I wanted to a good standard.
3. Internet (Google & Safari)
The internet was a main item that I had used in my work
where it came it very useful when I tried to do any form
of research. It enabled me to get as much information on
alternative rock as I wanted. I used it to find multiple
pictures that I would use in my blog such as the ones
below. If I did not have access to the internet I would not
be able to create my blog and in result I would have to
find an alternate method to do my work. Over all the
internet was a fast and affective method that I had used
to produce my work and research.
4. IMac
The IMac was a very useful piece of technology that was very
important in creating any of my work. I had used the IMac
when editing any of my work be it either my music video or
my ancillary tasks. I had used Premier Pro and Photoshop to
create my productions. I used it for other purposes such as
creating power points or writing directly onto blogger. I had
to use the IMac when taking the footage that I had taken on
either the digital camera or my smartphone. This enabled my
to put my work onto a decide that I could use to easily edit
my work and make any changes that I needed to. Due to the
fact that I needed to access the internet from some location I
mainly used the IMac which meant that it was a key in my
research and planning work. Over all the IMac was one of the
most useful pieces of technology that I had used in my work
and without it I would not have been able to get most of my
work done to the level that it has been produced.
5. Video camera
I used a digital camera when shooting my music video which was
light and therefore could be used either hand held or on a
tripod, monopod or any form of jig. The camera itself filmed in
full 1080p which enabled me to get a very high resolution
picture that displays in full HD. The camera itself did not have
very many shooting options where as I couldn’t directly apply
filters or techniques over the footage that I had produced.
However this was not necessary due to the fact that I could use
these features when editing the footage in Premier pro and then
if I wanted to add further special effects I would use After
effects. I could attach the camera to the IMac via a USB cable
which meant that the file transfer rate is faster than if it was to
be sending via other means such as Bluetooth. In the end the
camera was a very instrumental tool that I had used in my
production and without it I would not have been able to produce
the video that I have.
6. Email
I used email a variety of times when doing my work such as
when asking for permission from the record company that had
the rights to the song that I had used in my music video.
Without this I would not have been able to use the song that I
wanted and would have had to produce and original piece of
music. I used email when sending a variety of things to my self
such as scanned work, pictures that I had taken or this
Powerpoint that I am currently making. It has its own
advantages and disadvantages such as the fact that I can only
send things so long as it is under a certain file size which meant
that what I could send was limited. However in the end I didn’t
need to send any work that exceeded this size. Due to email
being useful in these aspects it has become a key part to the
completion of my work.
7. PowerPoint
PowerPoint is a very affective way to produce a presentation
with ease. I used it in many different locations. It has multiple
different features such as being able to insert various items into
your work such as pictures. You can change the design to make
it visually appealing to the person who is reading such as the
blue theme that I have used in the background. You can apply
transitions and animations such as what you can do in a video.
However there was one main flaw with using PowerPoint which
is the fact that I could not directly upload my work onto my blog
and in result I had to upload it to Slideshare which I would then
embed into my blog under a HTML code. This enabled the
PowerPoint the be displayed on the blog under the function of
Slideshare. This enabled me to use a different platform to
display my work on.
8. Slideshare
Slideshare was used for when I completed tasks on
PowerPoint. The reason why I used Slideshare was because
I needed to upload my PowerPoint presentation onto my
blogger and the only way to do this was through
Slideshare. Slideshare became a very compatable piece of
technology that I was able to use in creating my work.
9. Photoshop
Photoshop was very useful when creating my ancillary tasks however it had no
use when creating my music video. Photoshop has a wide range of editing
software that you can use to manipulate photos in multiple different ways. This
can be through either cropping, masking or transforming the images that you
have used etc. You can also individually change the colour of an individual pixel
if you were to zoom in enough which means that you have access to a very
precise tool. You can use the magic wand tool in multiple ways where I used it
to cut out sections of images or in combination with the fill tool I used it to
colour various highlighted sections. Photoshop is so advanced in its photo
manipulation technology that you can produce anything from something else.
This meant that I could make anything that I wanted to however the only
limitation was my own personal skills where I can use all of the tools but I don’t
know every specific feature of Photoshop. The software allows you to export
work in multiple formats such as Jpeg or Png etc. which meant that I would
apply the photo to the appropriate software that it was compatible with which
is why I saved my work in a Jpeg format and then uploaded it directly to my
blog.
10. Premier pro
Premier Pro was a very useful piece of software that was the only program I
used to edit my work on. It is very simplistic if you know the basics of
common editing software however it can have some complex aspects that
you would have to learn before you can actually apply these techniques.
During the production of my work I only ever used premier pro to cut and
put together my video. However when making videos such as post
evaluation number 2 where I had to insert images and text on top of the
footage. There are multiple things that Premier Pro could have done
however I thought that this was unnecessary due to the genre of alternative
rock having no need of so many effects. The only effect that I had used was
slow motion which was a recording effect that my phone could do however
if necessary I could have applied this on premier pro. Over all Premier Pro
played a large role in the production of my work however I could have used
any other editing software and ended with the same result.
11. Youtube
I used Youtube as my main location to upload the footage
that I had made to due to the fact that it is very easy to
embed this footage to my blog because blogger and
Youtube are both connected through Google. Youtube also
served as a good place to get any footage that I could
screen shot and reference in my work. I had also used
Youtube to embed other videos into my work such as when
making a Prezi. Youtube was very useful in my coursework
due to the fact that any video that I would need to use or
reference it would be the first source that I would go to
while serving as a reliable location to upload work to.
12. Prezi
Prezi is a very good piece of free presentation software
that you can access online from any location. I had used
this in a few tasks with the only flaw that I found with it
being the fact that if you are trying to access the site on a
computer that has low specs it will usually not open at all
or be very slow. You are able to embed images and videos
directly from any website using the URL of the web
adress. This is then easy to embed onto my blog by using
the HTML embed code which links your blog to the Prezi
that you have created. Prezi has been very useful in the
production of my course work while serving as an
interactive and very visually appealing piece of software.
13. Blogger
Blogger is the main site that I had used which holds all of my
course work be it either text, videos, images of embedded
things from other locations. Without this I wouldn’t have been
able to connect all of my work together into one solid location.
Using this I am able to customize the way my work is displayed
and used through the settings of my personal blog. This could
include using tags so that each section of my work can be
accessed separately. Due to blogger being a public website it
means that anyone can access and view my work from any
location which in result produces and easier method to mark or
reference my work. In the end blogger was the most
instrumental website that I have used when creating my blog
due to the fact that without it I wouldn’t have the opportunity
to create a blog.
