Slide 1: HOW TO USE SACODEYL Searching and Browsing Tools
Slide 2: • SACODEYL: an open-access system to explore & browse multimedia contents of youth language in 7 EU languages: EN - FR - GE - IT - LIT - ROM - SP.
Slide 3: • We have developed many interesting tools for you to browse and find out interesting things about languages.
Slide 4: • You can easily browse videos of different interviews and search for words in the transcripted corpora.
Slide 5: On the 1st screen, choose the corpus you want to work with - If you click \"Search!\" you can search the corpus in varied ways. - If you click \"Browse!\" you can look at the interviews & videos of the corpus

Slide 11: Example of Search – Step 1.1 Search for all the sections of the interviews where the category “Holidays” occurs. Tick on Categories / Topics / Holidays as indicated in the following screen:
Slide 12: Example of Search – Step 1.2 Click on Search! to obtain Sections of interviews annotated with the Topic “Holidays” Each result shows transcription of the text & allows viewing clip of the interview
Slide 13: Example of Search – Step 2.1 Search for all occurrences of the word “Cambridge” in the English corpus. Click on “Word Search” and write “Cambridge” in the gap named “Word 1”
Slide 14: Example of Search – Step 2.2 Click on Search! and the following results will appear A word match list with all occurrences of “Cambridge” in the corpora (12 results) 8 words appearing on the left (Left Context) & 8 words on the right (Right context)
Slide 15: Example of Search – Step 3.1 We refine the search looking for the occurrence of 2 words in the same section. Click on Co-Occurrence, write in Search string “Oxford Cambridge” and Search! Now we obtain just 5 Sections in which these 2 words co-occur.
Slide 16: Example of Search – Step 4.1 Use “Word list” to generate a frequency word list of all words in the corpus. Click on View Lists / Show Word Lists

Slide 19: B) BROWSE FOR VIDEOS • From the Browse screen you can download and watch the clips of the different interviews. • As they are in RM format, it is necessary to use Real Player to watch them. • Now you can listen to the interviews and watch teenagers talking about their interests.
