  • 2. Basic Categorize of ResearchBasic Categorize of Research The basic categories of educational research are:  Research can be categorized by two ways .
  • 3. Basic Categorize of ResearchBasic Categorize of Research
  • 4. What is Qualitative Research? What is Qualitative Research? Qualitative research refers to the notion of quality to the nature of things. Qualitative research can be referred to the meanings, concepts, definitions, character, symbols and description of things. Qualitative research is based on depth of understanding rather than numerical analysis of data.
  • 5. Qualitative Research (Contd)Qualitative Research (Contd) Qualitative research is concerned with qualitative phenomenon involving quality. It is non-numerical, descriptive, applies reasoning and uses words. Its aim is to get the meaning, feeling and describe the situation.
  • 6. Qualitative Research (Contd)Qualitative Research (Contd) Qualitative research seeks to probe deeply into the research setting to obtain in-depth understandings about the way things are, why they are that way, and how the participants in the context perceive them.  Qualitative research is based on depth of understanding rather than numerical analysis of data.
  • 7. Nature of Qualitative ResearchNature of Qualitative Research
  • 8. Characteristics of QualitativeCharacteristics of Qualitative ResearchResearch Qualitative research is expressed through attitudes, feelings, opinion and perception. The findings can not be expressed in numbers. The findings are based on generalizations Non-measurable evidence
  • 9. Characteristics of QualitativeCharacteristics of Qualitative Research (Contd)Research (Contd) Qualitative design looks at relationship within a system or culture. Qualitative design refers to the personal, face-to-face, and immediate. Qualitative design is focused on understanding a given social settings, not necessarily on making predictions about that setting.
  • 10. Characteristics of QualitativeCharacteristics of Qualitative Research (Contd)Research (Contd) Qualitative design demands that the researcher stay in the setting over time. Qualitative design demands time in analysis equal to the time in the field. Qualitative design demands that the researcher develop a model of what occurred in the social settings.
  • 11. Characteristics of QualitativeCharacteristics of Qualitative Research (Contd)Research (Contd) Qualitative design requires the researcher to become the research instrument. This means the researcher must have the ability to observe behavior and must sharpen the skills necessary for observation and face-to-face interview. Qualitative design requires ongoing analysis of the data.
  • 12. Understanding QuantitativeUnderstanding Quantitative ResearchResearch Quantitative research describes phenomena in numbers and measures instead of words. Quantitative research refers to the count of things. Quantitative research is based on the measurement of quantity or amount. Researchers use quantitative approaches to describe current conditions, investigate relationship, and study cause-effect phenomena.
  • 13. Characteristic of QuantitativeCharacteristic of Quantitative ResearchResearch Quantifiable Research aimed at getting specific result (Experimental result) Quantitative research is more easier to understand Measurable evidence.
  • 14. Differences Between QualitativeDifferences Between Qualitative and Quantitative Researchand Quantitative Research Qualitative Research Quantitative Research 1. Qualitative findings are non- measurable 2. Qualitative research has its origins in descriptive analysis, collecting information from the specific situation to a general conclusion. 3. Qualitative research methods are based on different beliefs and purposes. 1. Quantitative findings are measurable 2. Quantitative research is more closely associated with situation, from general principles to specific situations. 3. Quantitative research methods are based on the collection and analysis of numerical data, usually obtained from questionnaires, tests, checklists and other formal paper-and- pencil instruments.
  • 15. Differences Between QualitativeDifferences Between Qualitative and Quantitative Research (Contd)and Quantitative Research (Contd) Qualitative Research Quantitative Research 3. Qualitative research will be much less concrete than pure numbers as data. As qualitative research is stories, or pictures, or descriptions of feelings and emotions there might be bias in seeking knowledge. 3. Quantitative research involves gathering data that is absolute, such as numerical data, so that it can be examined in as unbiased a manner as possible.
