  3. 3. A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf orseverely hard of hearing. (619) 569-1937
  4. 4. While hearing devices amplify sounds so that damaged parts of the ear can detect those sounds, cochlear implants bypass the damaged portions of the ear and directly stimulate the auditory nerve.(619) 569-1937
