  3. 3. Consacration <ul><li>This word comes from the Latin. </li></ul><ul><li>It means: </li></ul><ul><li>A. To set aside for a holy purpose </li></ul><ul><li>Through this consecration or ordination the minister of God serves the Church by word and deed. </li></ul>

Jesus the Son of God <ul><li>Jesus is the perfect mediator </li></ul><ul><li>The perfect High priest </li></ul><ul><li>Through Jesus a new covenant is established. </li></ul><ul><li>A perfect sacrifice is offered </li></ul><ul><li>A new people is formed </li></ul><ul><li>A new covenant is created </li></ul>

Successors of the Apostles </li></ul><ul><li>D. With the Pope guide the people of God to holiness, truth and the experience of God (Magisterium). </li></ul>
  16. 16. Priest <ul><li>Presbyter = elder </li></ul><ul><li>Priest are incorporated into the priesthood of Christ </li></ul><ul><li>A. They represent the bishop (subordinates) </li></ul><ul><li>B. They have the power to preach, and celebrate the sacraments and lead the people in worship. </li></ul>

Deacons <ul><li>There are two types </li></ul><ul><li>Transitional = those studying for the priesthood (celibate) </li></ul><ul><li>Permanent = Married or single Men who wish to serve the Church as ministers </li></ul><ul><li>Deacons do not share in the priesthood. They are ordain to ministry (service). </li></ul>

Deacons <ul><li>Some of the Deacon’s functions are: </li></ul><ul><li>Preach </li></ul><ul><li>Baptize </li></ul><ul><li>Proclaim the word of God </li></ul><ul><li>Witness marriage union </li></ul><ul><li>Lead funerals </li></ul><ul><li>Assist the Bishop or the priest in the liturgy </li></ul><ul><li>Serve as chaplains </li></ul>
  19. 19. Sunday <ul><li>The day of the Lord is the perfect day for the celebration of Holy Orders </li></ul><ul><li>The faithful is invited to participate at ordinations. </li></ul>
