      • Power is an attribute of God
    3. What is an attribute?
      • An attribute is a quality God possesses
      • In other words God is all-powerful
    4. What is Power?
      • Power is the ability to act or produce an effect
    5. What does it mean to have power?
      • To have power means we have :
      • Authority
      • Control
      • Influence
      • Over people or things
    6. Question
      • What kind of authority, control or influence do you have over people or things?
    7. How is power described?
      • Power is usually described as a force, energy, strength, and might.
    8. Question
      • How do you experience this description of power in your daily life?
    9. What is the Christian and Jewish belief about God’s power?
      • Christians and Jews believe that God is almighty
      • Christians and Jews believe that all power belongs on earth belong to God
      • Psalm 62 :12 = God is almighty
      • Revelation 1:8 = God is all-powerful
      • Job 42:2 = God’s purpose cannot be thwarted (let down)
    10. What is one of the main characteristic of God’s power?
      • The main characteristic of God’s power is that is universal.
      • Universal = all creation, all life, everything that exist, the earth , the universe are under God’s will.

      • How have you seen evidence of God’s power in your life? In the world of nature?
    12. What is the Christian belief about Jesus?
      • The Christian belief is that Jesus the son of God is the power of God.
      • Through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection God has shown his power, love and care for us.
      • Only Jesus has the power to save us and to offer us eternal life.

      • The Nicene Creed and the Apostles creed state that Jesus, was conceived by the Holy Spirit

      • Jesus demonstrated the power of God by working miracles (dynameis)
      • The word dynameis means “powers” or work of power.
      • The miracles are signs of the presence of God in our lives.

      • The four categories of miracles are:
      • A. Healing miracles
      • B. Exorcisms
      • C. Resuscitation
      • D. Nature miracles
    16. What are the healing miracles?
      • These are signs of Jesus’ power that involve the physical healing of the sick

      • Exorcism are sings of God’s power that involve casting out evil spirits or demons

      • These are signs of Jesus’ power that involve the bringing back to life to those who were dead

      • Nature miracles are signs of Jesus’ power over nature and creation

    27. What do Christians believe about God and his power?
      • A. Christians believe that God gives power and strength to people of faith
      • B. Christians believe that God actually shares his power with us (Grace).
      • We receive this power through the sacraments, prayer, fasting.

      • How you ever felt empowered to do something with your life or talents?
    29. How does God empower us?
      • God give us the power to choose and to do what is good through the Holy Spirit.
      • The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity =Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
    30. When do we receive the power of God?
      • We receive the power of God at baptism
      • On our baptism we are called sons and daughters of God.
      • We are given the power to live good lives and make a difference in the world if we choose to do so through our free will.
    31. How is this power strengthened?
      • The power we receive at baptism is strengthened through the sacraments
      • As Catholics we are called to celebrate and recieve the sacraments with faith and often.
    32. What are these seven sacraments?
      • 1. Baptism
      • 2. Eucharist
      • 3. Confirmation
      • 4. Anointing of the sick
      • 5. Reconciliation
      • 6. Holy Orders
      • 7. Holy Matrimony
    33. What do we receive through the sacraments?
      • Through the sacraments we received seven graces from God.
      • These graces inspire and empower us to make use of “gifts of the Holy Spirit”, and produce his fruits.
    34. What are the gifts of the Holy Spirit?
      • These seven gifts or charismas are:
      • 1. Wisdom
      • 2. Knowledge
      • 3. Understanding
      • 4. Right judgment
      • 5. Courage
      • 6. Reverence
      • 7. Wonder (awe in God’s presence)
    35. What do these gifts do?
      • These gifts increase our ability to relate to God, others and ourselves with love, hope and respect.
      • They help us understand life’s mystery and the path we must take in life.
      • They help us sense the will of God for our lives.
