  • 1. What is Commencement?
    • The formal ceremony where you receive your diploma, and maybe an award or two!
    • A celebration of your achievement.
  • 2. Do I have to come ?
    • No. You can pick up your diploma at the school after Commencement is over.
    • Some students will not be able to attend because of vacations/summer jobs.
    • No date is ideal.
  • 3. Shou l d I come?
    • Yes, it's an important evening for you and your family to celebrate!
    • It’s one last chance to see your classmates as a group (FB doesn’t count!) and to thank your teachers for putting up with you all these years!
  • 4. When is Commencement ? Tuesday, June 28 th 2011 @ 3:45 pm at The Meeting House
  • 5. The Meeting House?
    • It’s a purpose-built facility for such events.
    • More importantly, it’s air-conditioned, has great parking and restaurants nearby for celebrating afterwards!
  • 6. Are you a Regional Program Graduate?
    • Strings and SciTech graduating students need to submit an application to receive their Program Certificate.
    • The process is required as students are taking additional years and alternative pathways in their programs.
    • Forms will be available online.
    Due April 29
  • 7. Graduate Awards?
    • There are awards in most grade 12 subjects.
    • There are many other awards, some are academic and some which focus on involvement and achievement.

    • If you wish to see everything that’s available, check the criteria online at www.pcssonline.com
    • Most awards are decided on by PCSS staff.
    • But some awards are by student application only .
  • 9. So how do I apply?
    • Applications are available online NOW and are due NO LATER than Friday, April 29 th by 2:45 p.m.
    • Submit your completed applications to the folders in Guidance.
  • 10.
    • A separate application is required for each award you wish to be considered for.
    • Late or incomplete applications will NOT be accepted.
    • Final selection will be made by the Awards Committee under the direction of the Principal.
  • 11. Don’t be shy…apply!
    • If you feel you qualify for one or more of these awards…APPLY!
    • You may encourage people to apply, but you can NOT apply for someone else.
  • 12. What are the Subject Awards?
    • Subject area staff will decide based on high subject mark and demonstration of positive character attributes. Therefore, Night School, online school, etc. will not be included.
  • 13. How do I get my invitations?
    • They will be given out in Homeroom.
    • Office Homeroom? Yours will be distributed through the front office.
    • There will be an email account to RSVP to on the invitation. PLEASE RSVP!
  • 14. What do I need to graduate?
    • Check your transcript online!
    • There will also be a list of potential grads posted outside the front office soon.
    • Make sure you have your 40 Community Service hours recorded with Guidance! If not, you don’t graduate! Sorry!
  • 15. How is seating assigned?
    • Have your family members arrive early to secure good seats (and food!)
    • It is not an appropriate event for small children.
    • Don’t worry; The Meeting House can house over 1,000 people comfortably!
  • 16. Anything else???
    • Come to Commencement ready to celebrate with your family & friends, then go out for dinner afterwards!
    • Enjoy the event; it only ever happens once.
    • Any questions? Just ask!

    • Dress nicely.
    • Arrive by 3:45; there is food!!!!
    • Enjoy!
