2011 Graduation Presentation Transcript

  • 1. What is Commencement?
    • The formal ceremony where you receive your diploma, and maybe an award or two!
    • A celebration of your achievement.
  • 2. Do I have to come ?
    • No. You can pick up your diploma at the school after Commencement is over.
    • Some students can’t come because of holidays/jobs, but no date is ideal.
  • 3. Shou l d I come?
    • Yes, it's an important evening for you and your family to celebrate!
    • It’s one last chance to see your classmates as a group (FB doesn’t count!) and to thank your teachers for putting up with you all these years!
  • 4. When is Commencement ? Tuesday, June 28 th 2011 @ 3:45 pm at The Meeting House
  • 5. The Meeting House?
    • It’s a purpose-built facility for such events.
    • Most importantly, it’s air-conditioned and has great parking and restaurants nearby for afterwards!
  • 6. What are the Awards?
    • There are awards in most grade 12 subjects.
    • There are many other awards, some are academic and some which focus on involvement and achievement.
  • 7.
    • If you wish to see everything that’s available, check the criteria online at www.pcssonline.com
    • Most awards are decided on by the staff concerned.
    • But some awards are by student application only .
  • 8. So how do I apply?
    • Applications are available online NOW and are due NO LATER than Friday April 29 th by 2:45 p.m.
    • Submit your completed applications to the folders in Guidance.

    • One application per award applied for please!
    • No late or incomplete applications will be accepted.
    • Final selection will be made by the Awards Committee under the direction of the principal.
  • 10. Don’t be shy…apply!
    • If you feel you qualify for one or more of these awards…APPLY!
    • You may encourage people to apply, but you can NOT apply for someone else.
  • 11. What are the Subject Awards?
    • Given to the student with the top mark awarded at PCSS (no Night School, online school etc.)
    • The computer chooses those ones!
  • 12. How do I get my invitations?
    • They will be given out in Homeroom.
    • Office Homeroom, get yours in the front office.
    • There will be an email account to RSVP to on the invitation. PLEASE RSVP!
    • It is not an appropriate event for small children.
  • 13. What do I need to graduate?
    • Check your transcript online!
    • Make sure you have your 40 Community Service hours recorded in the Guidance Department! If not, you’re don’t graduate! Sorry!
  • 14. How is seating assigned?
    • Have your family members arrive early to secure good seats (and food!)
    • The Meeting House can house over 1,000 people comfortably!
  • 15. Anything else???
    • Come to Commencement ready to celebrate with your family & friends, then go out for dinner afterwards!
    • Enjoy the night: it only ever happens once.
    • Any questions? Just ask!
  • 16. So, on June 28 th 2011?
    • Dress nicely.
    • Arrive by 3:45; there's food!
    • Be prepared to fill out an information card.
