  • Ok this is where we talk a little but more about you and you need to challenge your thinking So what first impression do you make – how would you know - go to 3 recruiters and ask (I thought your beads made you seem very academic, I thought you talked too fast and felt you came across aggressive etc). Know the 4 things that make the first impression - handshake, smile, clothes and eye contact Do you know your strengths – have you been given proper feedback – are you accepting of feedback, you will know if you are because if you are you get it….just so you are aware most people are not! If you do all of this you will be able to improve the first impression and continually improve on your strengths Look to do other tests - do you know of Joharis window? A tool to help people with interpersonal comms and relationships

  • 4 ways to find a job – Ads, online, recruiters and Networking (in the broadest sense of the word i.e. colleagues, friends etc) Research – have you done it Here is a list of places to look which may all be familiar but some may not: NCI, IDA, company websites – all places you may not look Be a better researcher – the more you look the luckier you will get, you may find roles not called HR that are HR - they may say operations. Try and get a name when you apply and track every application Be focused on each application at a time – imagine it is the only job you will apply for this year Decide when to go direct and when not to I have not listed he agencies as you know them Jobisjobs.ie – can be useful and is relatively new

  • Practice – why should we hire you – remember the “so what” exercise with the CEO Others may not find roles on company websites – but you may Be innovative – I will do in two days what you pay a hr admin to do in 5
  • Firstly you need to understand why there is such a delay right now – The problem currently is that many of the roles are not “live” there is a position but perhaps not a budget Many jobsites keep jobs up for 114 days even after job is dead Companies need multiple sign offs How to ensure you get the interview Do you get the interview because you have the right skill-sets – not always!! This depends on how you tried to get the interview – is it a cold call, a ad, a network an agency – need to follow up and think at the outset how to give yourself a better chance When and why to follow up How do you deal with the frustration? You cannot be precious or assume things – get the job then be self righteous! Closure Closure is through a yes or a no ideally or perhaps through a contact in a recruitment agency for example Have a spreadsheet of applications etc
