In 2011, Tunisia underwent political upheaval, resulting in the eviction of
President Ben Ali and the election of the Constituent Assembly. This impacted

(IMF) approved a loan of US$1.7 billion to support economic reforms in 2013.
The contribution of the construction industry to GDP stood at 3.8% in 2013 and
the value added to the industry in nominal terms, increased from TND2.7 billion
(US$1.9 billion) in 2011 to TND2.9 billion (US$1.8 billion) in 2013. Forecast-
period growth will be supported by the investments in tourism and social
housing projects, and government efforts to revive the economy.
Economic and political instability in 2011, resulted in economic contraction, from
2.9% in 2010 to 1.9% of the GDP in 2011. The economy rebounded in 2012 and
registered an economic growth of 3.6% in 2012 and 2.6% in 2013.
