  • 3. The United Nations (1)• The United Nations (UN) is an international organization whose stated aims are: – facilitating cooperation in international law – international security – economic development – social progress – human rights, and – achievement of world peace World Peace 3
  • 4. The United Nations (2)• The UN was founded in 1945 after World War II to replace the League of Nations, to stop wars between countries, and to provide a platform for dialogue. It contains multiple subsidiary organizations to carry out its missions.• There are currently 193 member states, including every internationally recognised sovereign state in the world but the Vatican City. What has the UN achieved?• According to Wikipedia there are some 23 wars taking place in the world right now• There has not been any time when the world has been at peace during the existence of the UN• It is estimated that as many as 6 million people may have died in the Vietnam War alone (1955-1975) World Peace 6

  • 12. Delivering the UN Charter“And he shall judge among the nations, andshall rebuke many people: and they shall beattheir swords into plowshares, and their spearsinto pruninghooks: nation shall not lift upsword against nation, neither shall they learnwar any more.” Isaiah 2:4 World Peace 12
