  • 3. Background - 1 Socitm Membership Board 13/05/09
    • Web professionals have shown desire for networking, representation, recognition of professional competence and CPD
    • (central) government ready to support professional development for webbies
    • Sustaining activity needs more than voluntary effort
    • Socitm has large constituency of web professionals from Better connected, WTS and related events
    • Socitm membership now available beyond ICT management
  • 4. Background - 2 Socitm Membership Board 13/05/09
    • Revealed demand – Scottish web group, CoPs, Barcamps
    • Frustrated demand - SPIN, PSWMG
    • Socitm convened meeting Jan 09 involving SPIN, PSWMG, LocalDirectgov, central gov & third sector web reps
    • Socitm board commissioned report into feasibility
    • Report recommended Socitm set up group with launch Summer 09
  • 5. What is Socitm proposing? Socitm Membership Board 13/05/09
    • Individual membership
    • Support for a community with chair and secretary
    • Admin support to get group going
    • Support to start professional skills framework development and liaison with CoI, GCN, DirectGov
    • Presence on Socitm website and support from corporate services eg press office
    • Other possibilities eg…….
    • Private web group on IDeA CoP
    • Socitm Annual conference package
  • 6. What is Socitm proposing? Socitm Membership Board 13/05/09
    • Up to the group to develop more but initial offer is:
    • Normal benefits of individual Socitm membership
    • Access as individuals to research briefings related to the web and customer access free of charge
    • Personal discounts on events over and above Socitm or Socitm Insight rates
    • Networking events
    • Training and professional development at preferential rates

    • measurement/monitoring specialists

    • Lobby decision-makers* on issues of interest eg:

    • Lead on creation of skills framework & standards and professional development programme
    • Help shape Socitm web programme: Better connected, WTS, task management, etc
    • Government-on-the-web increasingly important – big opportunity to play influential role
