Temperate Deciduous Forest M&E

 1. 1. Temperate Deciduous Forest Michael Pineda & Edwin McGee
 2. 2. Description Page

Temperate deciduous forests are forests in cool, rainy areas; they have trees that lose their leaves in Fall and regrow them in Spring. Temperate deciduous forests are found in the middle latitudes around the globe and have four distinct seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. In the Northern Hemisphere, these forests are found in North America, Europe, and Asia.

The average temperature in temperate deciduous forests is roughly 75°F (24°C) but gets as high as 86°F (30°C), depending on the altitude of the forest. Forests higher in the mountains are colder. Deciduous forests receive from 2 to 5 feet (0.5-1.5 m) of precipitation (both rain and snow) each year. Humidity in these forests is high, from 60% to 80%.

 3. 3. Plants

Tree Stratum - the tallest layer, 60 -100 feet high, with large oak, maple, beech, chestnut, hickory, elm, basswood, linden, walnut, or sweet gum trees.

Shrub layer - shrubs like rhododendrons, azaleas, mountain laurels, and huckleberries

Ground layer - lichens, club mosses, and true mosses.

 4. 4. Herbivores

In the Temperate Deciduous Forest white tailed deer, grasshoppers, rabbits, newts, and earthworms are herbivores.

 5. 5. Carnivores

In the deciduous forest Collared Peccary , nightingale, dholes, black bears, and brown bears.

 6. 6. Closing

For our biome we really had a exciting time doing it. We found out more about the animals and plants living there. : The average temperature in temperate deciduous forests is roughly 75°F (24°C) but gets as high as 86°F (30°C), depending on the altitude of the forest. Forests higher in the mountains are colder.
