Social Media Popularity Skyrockets Published on July 13, 2009 Social networks have exploded in popularity in the past year. More than 4 in 10 (43%) among those who are online now use social networking sites, such as Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn—up from 27% a year ago— according to the Consumer Internet Barometer , a quarterly report produced by the Conference Board and TNS.

It is thought to have grown beyond 10 million in the past 4 months. By comparison, Facebook - one of the most popular social networking sites by number of visitors - has 200 million active users and grew by 228% during the same period.
