Mystery Party Games - Presentation Transcript

HOW ARE MYSTERY PARTY GAMES PLANNED?
Why should I consider mystery party games?
Including some mystery party games into your daughter’s upcoming party is something you might want to consider. They are not included much and therefore, will ensure your child’s party is memorable. They are immense fun when done appropriately.
      What are they?
The key point of a mystery party game is that the participants have to unravel something.
      How are they put together?
How much preparation are you happy to undertake is the first question you will need to answer. Answering this question will help you to decide what types of mystery party games are open to you:
      • loads of prep = full-on mystery party awaits you;
      • some prep = full-on mystery party for a portion of the night followed by some regular party games; and
      • no prep = focus on regular party games with a mystery slant (e.g. quizzes, puzzles and guessing games).
      What are the options?
Next up, you will need to ask yourself what types of mysteries can be included. This should be guided by the maturity of the participants and your experiences of hanging out with them. Your friends may also be a source of inspiration. Riddles are frequently preferred to scary activities by girls. It’s perfectly feasible for more frightening parties to keep the party goers entertained. It really depends upon the girls’ maturity. A party involving a more scary theme may be fine with some girls, while others will have a preference for a more tame party. To help you, have a chat with your child to determine what she would like.
      How many people should come?
This is more important if you are doing a lot of organizing before the party. It’s better to know, for example, how many characters you need to invent, how many scenarios you need to create, etc. If don’t have much time for preparation, it doesn’t matter how many attend because you can make it up as you go along.
Should themes be included? What are they?
Mystery party games are usually more successful if they are attached to a theme. Typical mystery party games revolve around the ‘the butler dunit’ type themes, however this does not need to be the case.
Have a think about what your child finds funny. Are animals high on her list? Each is able to become a party theme, and each can have accompanying mysteries. ’Who is my co-star’ can be a mystery for a film theme. The mysteries are limited only by our own imaginations.
If you decide that you’d rather not have a theme, there are still lots of mystery party games that you can play. Miming games are always fun, as is Guess Who and What Song Is This.
How much of the party should focus on mystery games?
The mystery can continue throughout the party if you’re energized to undertake lots of advance preparation. Some pre-party hair and make-up are a great idea, as would be getting everyone to come in fancy-dress. Another idea would be to let a few of the party-goers do some cooking to make some treats suitable for the party. The choice is yours. De-emphasizing the mystery party games will give you less to plan. However, they are a great addition to any party, because kids love variety.
What do I need to do now?
What mystery you decide on will determine this. There are many party packs for sale on the internet which give you everything you’ll require for a mystery party. They typically also enclose a funny dvd. If you do not have lots of time, these are perfect.
However, it’s also fun to create your own mystery. To do this, decide on the mystery using the guidance above. Then decide what the different characters can be. You should aim for each character to have at least one fact that the other characters do not know (this can be connected to the mystery or could be an additional fact that the party-goers must figure out). Including scenarios for the party-goers to interact in would also be fun. The focus of the game is for the characters to find out about the other characters and to solve the solution to the mystery.
If you include your child in the organizing, think about trying to conceal the mysteries from her.
