  • 2. Yuri Gagarin was a Soviet cosmonaut who was the first person to make a single orbit around the Earth.
  • 3. In 1958, President Eisenhower created NASA.
    And Kennedy gave us the push for us to go to the Moon by the end of the 1960’s.
  • 4. In 1957 the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1, the World’s first artificial satellite.
  • 5. In 1969, the Apollo 11 crew: Mike Collins, Neil Armstrong, and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon.
    “That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind” said Neil Armstrong
  • 6. The United States signed the SALT Agreement with the Soviet Union to decrease tensions between the two nations.
