  • 1. An earthquake is a sudden movement of a part of the earths surface . It is caused by severe shock waves that travel through the solid rocks from under ground to the surface .
  • 2. A STRONG QUAKE IS DETERMINED USING AN INSTRUMENT CALLED A SEISMOGRAPH AND THE INTENSITY OF AN EARTHQUAKE CAN BE DETERMINED FROM THE RECORDING MADE BY A SEISMOGRAPH USING A SCALE KNOWN AS THE RICHTER SCALE .UNLIMITED LEVELS CAN BE MEASURED ON THE RICHTER SCALE .THE LOWEST VALUE OR 1 INDICATESN A QUAKE THAT IS ALMOST NOT FELT AND A VALUE OF 8 OR HIGHER INDICATES A MASSIVE EARTHQUAKE .
  • 3. EFFECTS OF AN EARTHQUAKE Buildings may develop cracks or even fall down Roads and bridges get damaged . Trees get uprooted Many loose their lives An undersea earthquake causes tsunami It can cause landslides and fires
