Acid Reflux Sore Throat Heartburn Isnt The Only Symptom Reflux Causes - Presentation Transcript

    1. Acid Reflux Sore Throat - Heartburn Isn't the Only Symptom Reflux Causes “Heartburn and Acid Reflux is a growing and debilitating problem that is controlling too many lives in today’s society. It doesn’t have to be that way. Heartburn No More can cure heartburn and acid reflux naturally and will give you back the life that these problems have stolen from you. After reading this article, you can get all the details needed to make the logical decision here” Most people think that heartburn or similar symptoms of indigestion are the only symptoms of acid reflux or GERD. While that's certainly the most common symptom it is by no means the only one. Another surprisingly common symptom is acid reflux sore throat. That may seem unusual at first, but as you'll see in a moment makes sense when you consider what happens with acid reflux. Acid reflux refers to acid from the stomach gurgling up into the esophagus. Since the esophagus doesn't have the same protective lining the stomach does, the acid causes what amounts to an acid burn when it is in the esophagus. It's this irritation and damage to the esophagus that causes the discomfort we often refer to as "heartburn". Most commonly, the area injured is the section of the esophagus closest to the stomach. However, if the reflux is bad enough the injury and irritation can extend further up the esophagus. In fact, it can extend all the way to the area of the voice box and the back of the throat. When that happens, a sore throat is what results. It's obvious that it's easier for the acid to back up when a person is lying down than when they're standing. When a person is standing, gravity tends to limit the reflux to the lower portion of the esophagus. This is why the sore throat caused by acid backing up is often worse at night or in the morning after a person has spent the night lying down. Another symptom that can come up is hoarseness. This happens if the acid irritates the vocal cords. Although most of the time people with acid reflux sore throat will also have heartburn or some other symptoms in the stomach or lower chest they don't have to. That is, it's possible to have a sore throat because of acid reflux without experiencing any heartburn. This makes it more difficult for the person and their doctor to figure out what's going on.
