      • Was started in 1837 by William Procter and James Gamble
      • Started out supplying soap and candles to the Union Army during the Civil War
      • Invented floating soap which they called Ivory
      • Next invented Crisco in 1911, and expanded from that
      • The company headquarters are located in Cincinnati, Ohio
      • In 2006, there were 180,000 employees working for P&G

      • Procter and Gamble’s major competitors are

    3. Products and Services
      • P&G’s major products include Ivory soap, Crisco, Tide, Crest, Charmin, Downy, Pampers, Folgers, Old Spice, and Gillette.
      • Ivory soap was P&G’s first product
      • One of the reasons that has been so successful is because it floats
      • It’s first slogan was “It floats!” introduced in 1981
      • It is 99 and 44/100% pure
      • Its unique antimicrobial activity makes it very powerful, better than any other type of soap

      • The idea for Pampers diapers was conceived in 1961 by Vic Mills, a grandfather searching for a easier way to diaper his grandchildren.
      • Cloth diapers were extremely messy, and cleaning them was labor intensive
      • Pampers diapers were specially designed to be more absorbent and disposable
      • Pampers has been a very successful Procter and Gamble product because of its convenience and it was also very inexpensive.
    5. Honors and Highlights
      • A. G. Lafley’s success began when he was appointed CEO in 2000
      • Under his leadership, he was able to make P&G produce record high profits and stock prices
      • Another of Lafley’s most credible accomplishments came through the oral hygiene department, where he created a cheap electronic toothbrush, and revitalizing Crest to a level to compete again with Colgate
      • Lafley also made the biggest company purchase in the history of P&G with the purchase of Gillette in 2005 for $57 billion
