3. What is a greenhouse??
A greenhouse is a structure with walls and roof made chiefly
of transparent material, such as glass, in which desired plants
in a regulated climatic conditions are grown.
6. Introduction…
A phenomenon in which the atmosphere of a planet traps
radiation emitted by its sun, caused by gases that allow
incoming sunlight to pass through but retain heat radiated
back from the planet's surface.
OR
The exchange of incoming and outgoing radiation that warms
the Earth is often referred to as the greenhouse effect.
7.
8. Mechanism of greenhouse effect…
The Earth gets energy from the sun in the form of sunlight.
The Earth's surface absorbs some of this energy and heats
up. The Earth cools down by giving off a different form of
energy, called infrared radiation. But before all this
radiation can escape to outer space, greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere absorb some of it, which makes the atmosphere
warmer. As the atmosphere gets warmer, it makes the Earth's
surface warmer, too.

11. Greenhouse gases…
Any gas that has the property of absorbing infrared radiation
emitted from Earth’s surface and reradiating it back to Earth’s
surface, thus contributing to the phenomenon known as the
greenhouse effect.
Greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, which makes
the Earth warm.

The four major greenhouse gases are..
• Water vapor
• Carbon dioxide
• Methane
• Nitrous oxide
• Ozone
13.
14. Importance….
The greenhouse effect is important, because it contributes to
the survival of life on Earth. Without these greenhouse all
radiated heat would be lost into space and the surface of
the earth would be cold and barren. This natural phenomenon
acts like a blanket around the earth, is essential for life.
15. Impact of greenhouse…
The greenhouse effect is a major factor in keeping the Earth
warm because it keeps some of the planet's heat that would
otherwise escape from the atmosphere out to space. In fact,
without the greenhouse effect the Earth's average global
temperature would be much colder and life on Earth as we
know it would not be possible .The difference between the
Earth's actual average temperature 14° C and the expected
effective temperature just with the Sun's radiation -19°
gives us the strength of the greenhouse effect, which is 33°
C.
16. Enhanced greenhouse effect…
Some of the activities of man also produce greenhouse
gases. These gases keep increasing in the atmosphere. The
balance of the greenhouse gases changes and this has
effects on the whole of the planet.
17. Continue…
Because there are more and more greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere, more heat is trapped which makes the Earth
warmer. This is known as GLOBAL WARMING
18. Conclusion…
Greenhouse effect is very important for the survival of the life
on earth. Without the greenhouse effect, the Earth would not
be warm enough for humans to live. But if the greenhouse
effect becomes stronger, it could make the Earth warmer than
usual. Even a little extra warming can cause problems for
humans, plants, and animals.
