    20. Issues
      • As Facebook developed, they have continued to be challenged both technically and legally
      • The biggest criticism against Facebook has been regarding their terms of agreement and privacy and how information is collected and shared. Many strong opinions about this discussion regarding the "walled garden"
    21. Issues (Cont.)
      • In January 2008, famed blogger Robert Scoble was shutdown by Facebook for breaking the terms of agreement. He was testing another product for a vendor to export his contact's information. With over 50,000 people protesting, he was reinstated within days.
      • The recent ousting of Scoble has forced Facebook and other large companies such as Google to discuss an agreed means of making a user's data "portable" from one social networking service to another. In January an announcement was made that a standard produced by Dataportability.org will be used. Still lots of discussion still.
    22.
    23. Why should YOU use it?
      • Ease of use
      • Easy to get family members online, including the elderly
      • Easy to find lost friends and classmates
      • A great means to enlarge your network for personal or business
      • A great means to keep up to date with people in your network
      • A great place to test new gadgets, services and software without knowing any coding
      • A great place to advertise yourself when looking for a job, a partner or clients
    24. How Do You Market Yourself?
      • Get a good, clear photograph. Does not have to be professional but does reflect who you are
      • Only share the information you need to share. Privacy is still important so don't complete every question
    25. Future In Japan
      • Facebook is English based so it is not surprising how few Japanese are on it, especially compared to Mixi.
      • While expats are only now discovering Facebook, there's a world of opportunity to come once the interface it localized in Japanese.
      • Facebook plans to release the localization in either Q2 or Q3 of 2008
      • If you are a developer, learning FBML is a good investment of time
    26.
    27. Future In Japan
      • If you are a business person, the Introduction application is worth sign up
      • Facebook will not be king forever, but it is a good place to be online NOW
      • 2008 will see dramatic increases in Facebook development and with inclusion of Japan, greater International connections and opportunities
      • Social Networks are no longer just about posting information and waiting for people to respond. Facebook has raised the bar to seriously challenge the status quo such as Mixi
