  • Hello, Welcome to the second Orange and Motorola Webinar “'Here’s some great tips for migrating your Java ME apps to Android'”. I am the Director of Developer Services for Orange and I’ll be hosting today’s webinar. We know that many of you joined us two weeks ago to learn how to develop Android apps using the MOTODEV studio. So welcome back. We hope you’ve already started using this intuitive tool. For those who didn’t join us, but wanted to, then we’ll follow up with you after the webinar to show you where you can access the slides and the STUDIO. Before I hand over to Eric of Motorola, I’d like begin by saying that making sure your apps work seamlessly is really important to both Orange and Motorola. We want to help you to develop apps with the least effort possible, and we are looking at the ways in which we can help you. These webinars are a start and there is a wealth of resource out there from both MOTODEV and Orange Partner. I’ll explain how you can access this resource a little bit later in the webinar, plus I’ll update you on a testing initiative that Motorola and Orange are involved in for Android apps. But as I said, more about that later. But for now, I’ll hand you over to Eric Hildum, Senior Product Manager at Motorola to talk you what you need to know when migrating your Java ME app to Android. And one last thing, we’d really encourage you to ask us questions. At the end of the webinar we’ll have dedicated time for questions and answers, so please, don’t hold back. Ask away or send us your comments for discussion. If there is anything you want to know specifically about Eric’s session or generally about developing with Orange or Motorola at all then please send them via the chat and we’ll address them at the end of the webinar. There is also a twitter feed to send us your thoughts. Do so using the hash tag “ adevinar ”. Over to you Eric….
  • presentation title Who is Orange? We’re one of the leading telecommunications operators in the world, providing services to almost 216 million customers in 32 countries over five continents. We serve over 156 million mobile customers We employ more than 169,000 people around the world, including more than 80 000 working outside France, and had revenues of € 45.5 billion in 2010. We believe that innovation is fundamental to staying ahead of today’s rapidly changing competitive and technological environment, so we invest some € 900 million every year in innovative developments.
  • presentation title The Orange App Shop underlines our focus on wanting to do the best for our customers, who trust us to deliver for them a rewarding, safe and personal digital experience. That’s why Orange develops its own applications, which are designed to support core services and premium offers which Orange can propose exclusively to customers. For example, Orange Maps and TV d’Orange are available on both iPhone and Android platforms in France. In the UK, we have developed specific applications such as Orange Wednesdays, to complement the UK’s existing two-for-one cinema offer. Today, we’re a leading retailer of mobile games and applications in Europe, and each year we see more than 20 million paid-for games, apps, ring tones and wallpaper downloads. We want everyone with a phone in their hand to get the easiest access to relevant, personal, local content and the Orange App Shop has been created with this in mind. And creating a better way of getting content from our partners into the Orange App Shop and on to our customers is something that we’ve being putting a great deal of effort.
  • presentation title One of our key drivers for growth is innovation. But delivering innovation is pointless without understanding who is going to use it and how. With 209 million customers, you can imagine the breadth and variety of users we need to serve. We want to offer every one of them a simple, safe, rewarding and personal experience: wherever they are, whatever they do and whatever they use. What multimedia services do our customers want? - we analysed data from 300 million customer interactions over two years - we interviewed five and a half thousand individuals in four countries to understand how they felt about technology and services From this research we identified 5 basic principles upon which we have built our customer offerings: user-friendly services, relevant to your life simple to build your own experience your content , when and wherever you want it straightforward pricing , with no surprises secure : privacy is protected ... which all ties in with our Orange brand values: friendly, straightforward, honest, dynamic and refreshing. And this was the premise for our development of the Orange App Shop.
  • presentation title The Orange App Shop was created to give an millions of Orange customers an easy way for to discover, buy, use and manage apps, games, ringtones and wallpapers. • presentation title That’s why we launched Orange Partner Connect at the end of last year. Orange Partner Connect is at the heart of our new way of working directly with partners. • presentation title Orange Partner Connect is a natural extension of the Orange Partner program and the Orange App Shop. Developers are important to us that’s why in 2004 we were the first operator to launch a partner program. Today Orange Partner interacts with almost 60000 third parties, from technology and service partners, through developers and content providers, to industry, academia and individuals. Through the Orange Partner programme, we provide information to help partners understand each market’s requirements, customer insights and app needs. They are also help them through the development and submission process and are given as much one-to-one help and support as they need. Orange Partner also provides development testing support through tools to ensure every app works fine on the Orange devices. To help development, we hold regular, webinars and events, plus the provision of extensive useful information leveraging all our eco-system alliances and partners such as device manufacturers, software vendors and other operators. There are also Orange Developer Centre in New York, San Francisco, Scotland, London (Chiswick), Beijing, Israel and Vancouver, offering local access to Orange teams and allowing developers to test their apps on the live UK 2G and 3G network using a wide range of Orange devices. And as we’re a developer ourselves and experienced in publishing our own Orange branded applications in the major app stores, we share the same concerns as every other developer. We think this puts us in the best possible position to work with our ecosystem.
