Crowdlearning Using Tagging and Folksonomy: Extending Collaborative Pedagogy Beyond the Classroom by Noel R. Buensuceso and Joel C. Yuvienco
Outline of presentation• Introduction• Crowdlearning, Folksonomy, Tagging• MC Tree Inventory and Digital Mapping Project• Key Learnings
CrowdlearningA derivative of crowdsourcing, which is aparticipatory mechanism for communication, connection, and collaboration using what iscalled Social Web or social networks
CrowdlearningIn the academic context, crowdlearning takesadvantage of that mechanism to constructlearning in order to extend the existing bodyof knowledge.
Folks + Taxonomy = ?A folksonomy is a system of classification derived from thepractice and method of collaboratively creating andmanaging tags to annotate and categorize content. This practice is also known as collaborative tagging, socialclassification, social indexing, and social tagging.Folksonomy, a term coined by Thomas Vander Wal, isa portmanteau of folks and taxonomy.
TaggingA mechanism “by which users assign labels (in the form ofkeywords) to Web objects with the purpose to share, discover and recover them.Discovery enables users to find new content of their interestshared by other users. Recovery enables a user to recallcontent that was discovered before.”

Throughout the Philippines along sandyseashores, extending inland in open sandy valleys along streams, sometimes ascending to 800m. It is called ironwood because of its tough wood. Itpossesses medicinal properties. A tea made from its branches isapplied in case of kidney trouble and hypertension. A decoctionof the bark will stimulate menstrual flow.

Key LearningsThe model makes the learning context andcontent more familiar to the learner because theyboth could potentially become a deeply personalexperience as the learner is engaged in learningby doing.
Key LearningsThe process promotes ownership of the learningeven as the tasks are immersive andinvolve minimally invasive teaching. The amount of instructivist teaching takes placemainly in the classroom whileguidance/facilitation happens online wherestudents participate in constructivist activities.
Key LearningsThe learning artifacts could be associated withthe learners identity as well as a means forbuilding student electronic portfolios(eportfolios).
