Walk In Their Shoes Project

  1. 1. Walk In Their Shoes Project Darrel Davis Foundation Ministries I have been praying about something over the past few weeks that most people will probably think insane. I am going to spend an upcoming weekend living on the streets with the homeless. As most of you are aware, I work with a homeless ministry here in Raleigh called Church in the Woods. God has given me a burden for reaching out to those living on the street with the gospel. My plan is to get a back pack, my sleeping bag and the clothes on my back and have my wife drop me and at least one other person off on a Friday afternoon in downtown Raleigh and not pick us up until Sunday afternoon. I will only take with me the things that most homeless people have with them. I will take my mobile phone for emergencies – because many homeless people have a mobile phone – and a small emergency supply of food (because I am a diabetic). Otherwise, I will live off of the land for that weekend. The purpose of this project is to 1) experience what homeless people experience on the streets 2) share the gospel with as many of them as I can during my weekend on the street. Call it incarnational missions if you will. In the future – If all goes well – I may consider longer stints on the street (a week) as a way of reaching more with the good news. I will also make this experience available to others who would like to better understand homelessness and reach out to people with the good news. So I ask that you pray with me on this to make sure I have not lost my mind and that the Lord is telling me to do this. Also, pray that God will raise up one other person that I know to join me during this weekend. It will probably be sometime in June before I can undertake this project. Your feedback is welcome.
