PITCH FOR TEASER TRAILER “Carnage”- Nat, Ellie, Collette and Faye
Teaser Trailer Definition-A teaser trailer, or teaser is a short trailer used to advertise an upcoming movie, game or television series. A short trailer that is generally released many months before a movie is actually released, to give a brief peek at what the movie will be like ... We would like to keep our own trailer quite short, Possibly just over 1 minute, giving an insight into the genre, plot, characters, etc. We are going to aim to not give too much away during this time, but enough information to give a brief outline.
Genre Mood board/Ideas We are particularly interested in the genre of horror, but to break it down further, the genre of “Torture porn”. It has also been described as a “Gorno” . Which blends Gore and Porno. According to MichealArnzen these films “self consciously revel in the special effects of gore as an art form”. Horror Porn or Torture Porn films are, films that include sadistic torture, mutilation and murder - often with women as the victims . The first films of this genre where produced by a company called “Splatter” which gave “Hammer Films” their style. More recent films that have been produced that feature this genre include Vacancy, Captivity, Hostel, Hostel part 2, and The Saw Films. These films focus on graphic portrayals of gore and graphic violence. This is shown by special effects, (Makeup), excessive use of blood, and focuses on the vulnerability of the human body and the theatricality of its mutilation. The aim to portray images society might consider shocking, and often share some ideological grounds with the transgressive art movement. ( Art that was created to shock). This sort of film can date back to 1916 D. W. Griffith's Intolerance. It included two onscreen decapitations, and a scene in which a spear is slowly driven through someone's abdomen.
Characteristics of the genre Torture porn is different from typical horror films as they usually deal with fear of the unknown, supernatural and the dark, however these films focus on the physical destruction of the body. There is emphasis on visuals, style and technique including hyperactive camera work. Horror films generally re establish the social and moral order with good over evil, however horror/torture porn thrive on a lack of plot and order. Film Critic Michael Arnzen argues "the spectacle of violence replaces any pretentions to narrative structure, because gore is the only part of the film that is reliably consistent.“ These films feature fragmented direction and narrative and include “manic montages full of subject camera movement, cross cuttings from villain to victim, juxtapositions and contrasts”. This makes the characters appear fragmented, but also leaves the audience in a state of confusion.

Films that have inspired us We have been inspired by a selection of films. Some are quite recent and others are slightly older . For example, the film Maniac(1980) . Written by William Lustig This film was considered a “Splatter Film”. The film is about a middle aged man called Frank, who a split personality. He seeks revenge of his own misfortune of being abused as a child by his mother by stalking and killing young female victims in New York City. http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi613744921/ We found this film inspirational as we found that the main character profile interesting. We liked that the serial killer is shown to be a normal average man, but has a split personality and a sick mind. He commits many murders in gruesome ways , always making women his targets. The killer could be put into the “organised murderers “ category . Organised murderer s are said to be very intelligent and obviously, organised and know who their victims are going to be.
SAW (2004) Written by Leigh Whannell, directed by James Wan Plot- Two men wake up in a serial killers lair with a dead body lying between them, the dead body of which is holding a tape player and a gun. One must kill the other before a certain time, or his wife or daughter will die. There is a series of flashbacks thought which helps the audience learn more about the victims, and also the near capture of the killer- Jigsaw. The killer never actually kills the victims, he makes them kill themselves, or each other. He thinks the “game” out perfectly. With no way out. http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi535626521/ This film is very unrealistic, however it captures the idea of torture very well as there are some gruesome ways in which it comes across. The trailer particularly captures what we wish to achieve. By making the killer seem very organised and intelligent but in a very weird twisted way. However weren't going to try and achieve the same amount of extreme torture.
Planning
Storyline and Plot Drawing from the research we have found, and the films we have analysed we decided to come up with an idea of what we wanted our trailer/film to be based on.  We came up with the idea of an organised serial killer, who is very mysterious and clever who carefully plans out who his victims are  going to be, and how he is going to torture and kill them. There could be a hidden meaning to this, as a lot of murderers punish the innocent victims for how they were  mistreated usually as children.  Their victims usually being women. We found murderers such as “Ed Gein” ,“Josef Fritzl” and “Jeffery Dhamer”  researched what they did and what their motives are;
Idea- continued A twisted man who has an obsession with organisation, collects pictures of women and then stalks them and makes them his victims. He captures the women and stores them in his cellar under his offices and tortures them.
Ideas for the story board Production company (Twisted Pictures/Lionsgate) Fade in/Fade out of the stairs Fade in writing “Beneath the floorboards of normality...” Fade to man sitting with his back to the audience, surrounded by notice boards filled with black and white pictures, and a desk that is very organised. Fade into black screen, (writing) “Deep dark plans are being made” Fade out Close up of a death letter being made , using a latex glove and a pair of tweezers stating “I’m watching you” Fade into black screen Writing “...Or has it already begun” Series of quick flashing images of disturbing things such as, the victims (who will have been made up to look burnt and tortured), nails scraping down walls, horror weapons,blood. End on the lift door being shut by the phsyco “Coming to get you on the 10/10/10”
Location for filming We plan to film our coursework in The boot room restaurant . We where particularly interested in the cellar, as it had potential to be a good location for the genre of film that we are wishing to create. This is due to many stories in the media which involve dark and gruesome things happening in cellars, such as torture and murder.
Character Profiles We are following the generic conventions of a horror film we are having a male playing the murderer and having female victims. We decided to cast Jack as our murderer because of the previous work we’ve seen him take part in. He takes on the role of a scary psychopathic person very well. He’s an experienced actor. Jacks character is called Jim Patricks. He has certain characteristic inspired by the serial killers Ed Gein and Josef Fritzl. He’s a smart and takes great care in planning his murders perfectly this makes him an organised serial killer. He doesn’t interact with anyone and has no social skills.
Audience Our film is specifically aimed at the age range of 18-25. This is due to the way we wish our audience to feel. It is aimed to make the audience feel tense, uneasy and in a venerable state, as the actors playing the victims will be of a similar age. However the film will also draw in people with an interest in the genre, for example some people may have interests to do with crime and murder.

  • 12. Storyline and Plot Drawing from the research we have found, and the films we have analysed we decided to come up with an idea of what we wanted our trailer/film to be based on. We came up with the idea of an organised serial killer, who is very mysterious and clever who carefully plans out who his victims are going to be, and how he is going to torture and kill them. There could be a hidden meaning to this, as a lot of murderers punish the innocent victims for how they were mistreated usually as children. Their victims usually being women. We found murderers such as “Ed Gein” ,“Josef Fritzl” and “Jeffery Dhamer” researched what they did and what their motives are;
  • 13. Idea- continued A twisted man who has an obsession with organisation, collects pictures of women and then stalks them and makes them his victims. He captures the women and stores them in his cellar under his offices and tortures them.
  • 14. End on the lift door being shut by the phsyco “Coming to get you on the 10/10/10”
  • 15. Location for filming We plan to film our coursework in The boot room restaurant . We where particularly interested in the cellar, as it had potential to be a good location for the genre of film that we are wishing to create. This is due to many stories in the media which involve dark and gruesome things happening in cellars, such as torture and murder.
