  9. 9. <ul><li>What is a website? </li></ul><ul><li>A website is a collection of web pages. </li></ul><ul><li>Web pages are generally written in HTML. </li></ul><ul><li>The files on your computer that bear the extensions ( part of the file name after the . (dot sign)) html, htm, shtml, chm are HTML files. </li></ul><ul><li>HTML == Hyper Text Markup Language </li></ul><ul><li>Generally a website represents an organization, a subject, an event or an issue where things are told from different view ports through diverse media. </li></ul><ul><li>A website is hosted on a computer which is connected to the Internet. </li></ul>

(Contd…) </li></ul><ul><li>You start a web browser on the computer at your computer and type the address (e.g. www.sust.edu or www.yahoo.com ). </li></ul><ul><li>The web browser sends request for the main page i.e. Home Page to the server ( the computer on which the website is hosted ) and the server serves the web page. </li></ul><ul><li>Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Mozilla, Konquerer etc. are famous web browsers. </li></ul><ul><li>HTTP == Hyper Text Transfer Protocol is used to serve webpages. </li></ul>

  12. 12. <ul><li>What is a web page? </li></ul><ul><li>Web page presents information. </li></ul><ul><li>It contains many objects. </li></ul><ul><li>You can choose where to place the objects. </li></ul><ul><li>Some of the objects can take user input. </li></ul><ul><li>Some other just present information or beautify the page. </li></ul><ul><li>Web pages of a website are organized under directories / folders. </li></ul>
