Special eLearning issues at HE • Emphasis on contact activities within courses o increased number of students o Changed life-style (job, other majors) • Scarce multimedia materials available centrally o Teachers have their individual content o Special program areas or small, program speciﬁc courses o Increased ICT competencies of teachers • Present and future presence of the digital natives

ELTE eLearning speciﬁcs • Common LMS used by 8 faculties synchronised with student administration module (ETR) • 30.000 students and 3.000 teachers • 8.000 active users, logging in at least weekly • 1.300 users logins daily • 5th semester of present developments • 29.000 LOs (e.g. presentation, web page) • 5.700 forums, 3.900 assignments, 800 online tests • 269 lexicons, 1 podcasting module

Speciﬁcs of UI • Content-centred, though content development not centralised • 5 SCORM compatible modules, but many full books • File sharing and simple communication interfaces • web 2.0 applications (like wikis) are scarce, • Scarce support for students collaborative activities

Challenges & necessities • The LMS and its educational use is between web 1.0 & web 2.0 • Several other web 2.0 applications exist, but due to its centralised and stable service there seems to be no realistic alternative • Could centralised community building be eﬀective? Course groups diﬀer – IWIW (Hungarian facebook) is very active
