  2. inmates <ul><li>Inmates are under the custody of ADC </li></ul><ul><li>Under these conditions inmates are subject to search </li></ul><ul><li>Searches conducted are to be within reason </li></ul>
  3. inmates <ul><li>Searches can be done as random or they can be a target search </li></ul><ul><li>Searches can be done with one officer and the inmate present or with two officers and no inmate present. </li></ul><ul><li>The inmates can be strip searched if staff believes that they are hiding something </li></ul>
  4. inmates <ul><li>Their property is thoroughly searched for any contraband. </li></ul><ul><li>Contraband is anything that is not allowed by the ADC policies. </li></ul><ul><li>Nuisance contraband is that an inmate has too many magazines. </li></ul><ul><li>Hazard contraband is that any material seized can be used as a weapon or harmful to staff or inmates. </li></ul>
  5. inmates <ul><li>Inmates’ personal mail is searched through to make sure that there is not any kind of contraband coming in or going out of the prison. </li></ul><ul><li>Inmates’ personal mail is scanned for certain words like stab, kill, escape for example </li></ul>
  6. Inmates <ul><li>Inmates’ legal mail is opened in front of the inmate. </li></ul><ul><li>the inmate has to pull everything out of the envelope for the officer to see that there is not any contraband </li></ul><ul><li>Outgoing legal mail is done the same way with the inmate present. The inmate seals the envelope after it has been searched. </li></ul>

Visitors <ul><li>People that come to a prison to see one of their loved ones are subject to search </li></ul><ul><li>A dress code is in place and certain items are not allowed into the prison like any kind of glass containers or cell phones </li></ul><ul><li>Each person has to walk through a medal detector and their property is x-rayed. </li></ul>
  8. visitors <ul><li>Once the visitors have passed through the medal detector they have to walk by the dog. </li></ul><ul><li>If the dog barks, that person is asked to be searched, if they refused they are asked to leave and that inmate’s visit will be canceled. </li></ul>
  9. staff <ul><li>Staff are subject to random searches. </li></ul><ul><li>Staff’s vehicles are searched for any contraband. </li></ul><ul><li>Staff are padded down before their vehicle is searched. </li></ul>
  10. staff <ul><li>If staff is caught with contraband like drugs, they are detained and held until the police arrive. </li></ul><ul><li>If staff are under investigation for bringing in contraband, they are moved to complex and are not allowed to have any inmate contact until the investigation is completed. </li></ul>
