Illness Misadventure @ St Mary's - Presentation Transcript

    1. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE What you need to do if you miss an assessment task or are late on the day of an assessment task
    2. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • The day of an assessment task means the day of an in-class task OR the day a task is due to be submitted
    3. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • If you are unwell or unable to complete a task to your true ability DO NOT SIT THE TASK. If you sit a task and then say you were sick or upset etc, this cannot be taken into consideration. Your paper will be marked as is.
    4. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • YOUR PARENT/CARER MUST RING THE SCHOOL BY 8.45 IF YOU ARE ABSENT ON THE DAY OF AN ASSESSMENT TASK OTHERWISE YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO
    5. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • All hand-in tasks must be submitted before 8.45am (years 11 and 12 to Student Office; Year 10 in undercover area)
    6. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • Some Year 10 tasks only may be submitted during class time or as directed on assessment notification.
    7. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • Please note that FOR YEAR 10 ONLY – if a hand- in task is not submitted on the due date a penalty of -10% per day will be incurred.
    8. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • On the day you return to school you must get an I/M form from the Student Office or Mrs Halcrow
    9. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • An I/M form must be accompanied by a medical certificate or a misadventure statement. Very few circumstances do not require this and will be decided by counsellors, Year Coordinator or Mrs Halcrow
    10. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • Please note that a doctor’s certificate must be dated on the day of illness – it cannot be back dated e.g “Mary states that she was sick on March 10”
    11. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • The I/M form must be completed and returned to Mrs Sue Flint in the Kulilla Centre within • 5 days of return to school
    12. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • If the form is not returned within 5 days you will receive a zero for the task unless there are exceptional circumstances
    13. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • To complete an I/M form properly, you need to ensure that all sections are completed and all signatures acquired (yours, parents Year Coordinator and KLA coordinator – Mrs Halcrow will sign after you give the form to Mrs Flint). DO NOT hand an incomplete form to Mrs Flint or it will be returned to you
    14. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • When you see the relevant subject coordinator to complete his/her section of the form a decision will be made as to whether you complete an alternate task or receive an estimate
    15. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • Do not assume what the coordinator’s decision will be.
    16. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • If an alternate task is decided you must be prepared to do it within the next few days at the coordinator’s discretion
    17. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • IT IS NOT YOUR DECISION AS TO WHETHER YOU DO THE TASK AND WHEN
    18. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • If you do not follow these steps you WILL receive a zero. You will be interviewed by Mrs Halcrow and she will phone your parents. An ‘N’ Award warning letter will be mailed to your parents
    19. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE • If you receive a zero you have the right of appeal. An appeal form may be obtained from Mrs Halcrow and needs to be returned within 7 days of the date of the letter sent to parents
    20. ILLNESS/MISADVENTURE QUESTIONS ???????
    21. PLAGIARISM • Plagiarism occurs when work of another author is used in a student’s work without acknowledgement • The college has a very strong policy against plagiarism of any type • If a task or part of a task is plagiarised the marker will determine which sections of the work are involved
    22. PLAGIARISM (cont’d) • The work is then taken to the Academic Care Coordinator who, in consultation with the Dean of Studies, will determine the degree of penalty to be applied. • No teacher feedback or communication about the task will be given until a decision is made about the plagiarised work
    23. PLAGIARISM (cont’d) • The student involved in the plagiarism will be interviewed by the Academic Care Coordinator and advised of the decision • The teacher will then be advised • Only then will the task and feedback be given to the class.
