    Dear Gaik Huey,
Happy New Year to you too.
    Thanks for your encouraging words.
New Year Resolutions to me, are actually very individual and private matters. One has to retrospect, reflect and contemplate..go into one’s silence of the mind .. and then make aspirations ( resolutions ) as to the LIFE STEPS one has to take to grow in compassion and wisdom ...

Thanks for selecting these Words of the Buddha for reflection. True, one has to live at the present moment to have inner peace as the past is gone and future uncertain. One also has to tame the mind so that it does not yield to what the body desires through the eyes, ears, nose ,tongue and the body. This is the way to have inner peace.

Wise Words To Reflect On - Presentation Transcript

  1. Wise Words To Reflect On
  2. Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without. Buddha
  3. Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the Eternal Rule. Buddha
  4. Do not overrate what you have received, nor envy others. He who envies others does not obtain peace of mind. Buddha
  5. Endurance is one of the most difficult disciplines, but it is to the one who endures that the final victory comes. Buddha
  6. Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned. Buddha
  7. We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves. Buddha
  8. It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways. Buddha
  9. It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell. Buddha
  10. Neither fire nor wind, birth nor death can erase our good deeds. Buddha
  11. The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, and not to anticipate troubles, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly. Buddha
  12. Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared. Buddha
  13. There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to Truth: * Not going all the way; and * Not starting. Buddha
