The 5th Precept ... A Time To Ponder The 5th Precept ... A Time To Ponder Presentation Transcript

    • The 5 th Precept A Time To Ponder Buddhists observe the 5 precepts or training rules as a code of moral conduct.
    • The 5 Precepts are:
      • No Killing
      • No Stealing
      • No Sexual Misconduct
      • No Lying
      • No Intoxicants
    • Observing The Precepts is essential for one’s spiritual growth and mental peace.
    • The True Story that follows ( circulated in the Internet some years ago ) makes one ponder on the dangers of breaking the 5 th Precept.
    • In September 19, 1999, Jacqueline Saburide was a young pretty lady at the prime of her life.
    • 1998 – Jacqueline with her father
    • Jacqueline on Vacation in Venuezuela
    • Jacqueline’s Birthday Party as a child
    • Jacqueline at a Party with friends
    • The car in which Jacqueline traveled. She was hit by another car that was driven by a 17-year old male student on his way home after a couple of hard drinks with his friends. This was in December 1999.
    • Jacqueline was caught in the burning car and her body was heavily burnt in just around 45 seconds.
    • After the accident Jacqueline needed over 40 operations .
    • Jacqueline with her father in 2000
    • Jacqueline getting medical treatment
    • Jacqueline – 3 months after the accident
    • Without a left eyelid Jacqueline needs eye drops to keep her vision.
    • This was the man who devastated the life of Jacqueline Saburide in 1999. Now 20 years old ( 2002 ), he cannot forgive himself for driving drunk and causing the motor accident on that night three years ago . He is aware of devastating Jacqueline Saburido’s life . He probably has to live with the suffering mental trauma for the rest of his life.
      • TO ALL OF US WHO DRIVE :
      • Let us ponder and reflect :
      • We must never drink and drive.
      • We must not speed. “SPEED THRILLS BUT KILLS.”
      • We must not drive recklessly.
      • We must obey traffic Rules and Regulations. Practice Road Courtesy.
              • The End.
              • Hope we have learnt from this Lesson From The Internet.
              • May we grow in Wisdom and Compassion.
