      • The foodservice industry in Ohio is a big business…
      • … and we are looking for educated professionals.
      • Over the next decade, the industry is expected to create an additional 2 million jobs and 47,000 will be management positions.
      • Industry training begins in high school:
        • Helps students explore career options and develop academic and workplace skills
        • Prepares students for post-secondary education and employment
        • Provides a comprehensive curriculum including classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory work and on-the-job training
        • Results in a professional, prepared and well-trained workforce
    • National ProStart Student Invitational ®
      • The Competition:
        • Ohio ProStart ® students participate in state competition in culinary arts and management
        • Winners of the state competition travel to compete nationally against other state ProStart students
        • Funded by scholarships and donations
        • Teaches skills and competencies that serve students into college and the adult workforce, including:
          • Team work, planning, presentation, technical capabilities in culinary arts and management
    • National ProStart Student Invitational ®
    • The Ohio ProStart ® Pros
      • Ohio ProStart ® Teachers:
        • Teach the complete course of study
        • Test Level 1 and Level 2
        • Help students discover community work experiences
        • Complete Ohio ProStart program surveys twice a year
        • Become an ORA Associate Member
        • Participate in teacher training courses
          • Attend Level 1 and Level 2 seminars
          • Attend annual Ohio ProStart Workshop
        • Meet the team of Pros: ORAEF & NRAEF Staff, Field Coordinators, Workforce Development Committee, ORA Staff
        • Recruit students into Ohio ProStart program
        • Explain program goals, career paths and requirements for program to students and parents
        • Visit worksites and classrooms
        • Provide scholarship information
        • Advise students on post-secondary options
        • Competition and curriculum at the national level

    • The Ohio ProStart ® Support Network
      • Ohio ProStart ® Parents:
        • Help students explore career options according to his/her strengths and interests
        • Work with program staff to ensure student’s success
        • Emphasize workplace values
        • Encourage students to apply for scholarships
        • Attend program and school events
        • Volunteer in the program

    • The Ohio ProStart ® Support Network
      • Employers- Ohio ProStart ® Preferred Partner Program:
        • Offer paid positions for students
        • Give well-rounded, positive work experiences
        • Serve as a mentor for students
        • Evaluate using Ohio ProStart tools and performance reviews
        • Join local advisory board(s)
        • Host field trips and job shadowing
        • Provide letters of recommendation to deserving students
    • National Certificate of Achievement
      • Complete 400 hours of industry experience in two years
        • 200 hours paid work experience
        • 200 hours classroom experience
      • Pass Level 1 and Level 2 exams
      • Achieve program competencies
