Reworking the learning material 
1) Status of the course 
• -Compulsory course for all Masters programmes in Education 
• -Means it can be published as a stand alone course. 
2) Copyright issues 
• -Change the copyright license to an open one. 
3) Year of publication 
• -5 year lifespan 2009- Content requires updating. 
4) Adequacy of the content 
• -3 modules, 12 units of 5 pages each. 
• -Inadequate- requires examples, illustrations, images etc. 
• -Maintain current structure - an introduction, theoretical approaches, and 
application of the theories or 
• -Restructure into 1 module with a number of units
Contd. 
• Self assessment- No answers provided, should be 
provided at the end of the course. 
• Study guide to the course is available, current 
procedure to be published with the content. 
• TMA- MCQs, no feedback. 
• Feedback-Suggest provision of automated comment 
on wrong answers and right answers. 
• Postgraduate course- Provide TMA essay questions 
with a word limit. Make provision for feedback 
comments by tutor.

Concluding Remarks 
• Whether we decide to make all our content 
OERs, it is desirable to incorporate the 
features of OER into them because it will 
improve the quality of their structure for an 
online/e-learning environment. 
• Has implications for the institution’s internal 
QA mechanisms to provide procedures and 
standards that will ensure quality in its 
adoption

Reworking the learning material 1) Status of the course • -Compulsory course for all Masters programmes in Education • -Means it can be published as a stand alone course. 2) Copyright issues • -Change the copyright license to an open one. 3) Year of publication • -5 year lifespan 2009- Content requires updating. 4) Adequacy of the content • -3 modules, 12 units of 5 pages each. • -Inadequate- requires examples, illustrations, images etc. • -Maintain current structure - an introduction, theoretical approaches, and application of the theories or • -Restructure into 1 module with a number of units
  • 3. Contd. • Self assessment- No answers provided, should be provided at the end of the course. • Study guide to the course is available, current procedure to be published with the content. • TMA- MCQs, no feedback. • Feedback-Suggest provision of automated comment on wrong answers and right answers. • Postgraduate course- Provide TMA essay questions with a word limit. Make provision for feedback comments by tutor. • Instruction to Tutors- Yes, can be updated to promote reuse
  • 4. • References- Should follow specific style e.g. APA referencing style which has been adopted by NOUN. • Include references of open source materials. • Add Self assessment questions that cover each module at the end of the module.
  • 5. Clear Copyrights • Copyright belongs to the institution. • Content should be passed through checks to ensure that no section has infringes on copyrights. E.g. Software for plagiarism. • Sections affected should either be • Replaced with open license content or obtain permission from relevant authors/publishing houses.

Reflections on the Exercise (4) • Brings to the fore policy considerations to guide the implementation of OER • e.g. The need to review existing policy guidelines on CMD to incorporate OER considerations, and house style issues. • Need for Internal quality mechanisms to ensure that content meets required standards. • E.g. Checks for copyright infringements.

Concluding Remarks • Whether we decide to make all our content OERs, it is desirable to incorporate the features of OER into them because it will improve the quality of their structure for an online/e-learning environment. • Has implications for the institution’s internal QA mechanisms to provide procedures and standards that will ensure quality in its adoption
