    2. 2. Introduction <ul><li>During the Gilded Age, from 1869-1896, millions of immigrants poured into the United States from all over the world including China, Ireland, and Italy. These newcomers hoped for a better life upon their arrival yet were faced with low paying jobs, poor living conditions, discrimination, competition, and savage mistreatment. </li></ul>
