Slide 5: Audio Handling • authorSTREAM handles narrated audio presentations very well. Audio is retained in narrated PowerPoint presentations when uploaded to authorSTREAM. Users can also create audio presentations using live audio or pre-recorded audio as input in authorPOINT and upload to authorSTREAM. • SlideShare provides the “slidecast” feature in which users need to synchronize audio online after uploading audio onto their own server or some other server. Slide 6: Desktop Applications authorSTREAM has offline desktop applications supporting the service. These applications provide advanced features, which professional presenters require, especially in the e-learning and business segments. SlideShare does not offer any offline desktop utility to support the website service. • authorPOINT Lite, a free tool, is like Picasa for PowerPoint, which converts PowerPoint to Flash on the desktop and can batch-upload presentations to authorSTREAM. • authorPOINT is an advanced multimedia presentation creation software, which installs in PowerPoint and offers a host of features for power users. Slide 7: Private Presentations • authorSTREAM pioneered the Private presentations feature, which is now also available on SlideShare. At the time I wrote this review, only authorSTREAM had this, so that’s how you hear it in the audio narration. Changing audio narration is a lot of work, so I did not do it. • Users can upload up to 20 private presentations on authorSTREAM, and share with as many people as required. There is no limit on SlideShare. • authorSTREAM private sharing is fully secure. Only invited registered members can access private presentations. It also means that private presentations are not indexed by the search engines, and are not accessible directly. SlideShare lets non-members also access private presentations.
