    2. What is Psychology?
      Psychology is the study of the mind and behavior of humans and animals alike. It is a science which is based on the research of what humans and animals do and how they act. The science is expanding to include neuroscience and health science as well.
    3. Psychology as a major
      Psychology as a major involves generally around 40 credit hours which focus on training the student to think critically and analytically. Most majors include classes geared towards one of the three main psychological concept areas being Perceptual cognition and development , Behavioral and evolutionary neuroscience , or Social, personality, and abnormal psychology .
      This major gives you many skills and abilities from Human Relations to Research which can be used across the board at almost any job out there.
    4. Potential Careers for a Psychology major
      A psychology major opens up many opportunities for employment due to the wide array of skills taught to its students. There are jobs in many different fields which are potentially career choices.
      Some of the jobs frequently associated with psychology major graduates are Psychiatrists, Counselors, Research Psychologists, Job Analysts, Community Workers, Consultants, Professors and countless more possibilities.
      With a major that teaches you such a wide range of skills you have the liberty of picking and choosing what you want to do.
    5. Psychology at Coastal Carolina University
      The Psychology department at Coastal Carolina is part of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences. The professors in this college are all very experienced and have earned their degrees from prestigious universities around the country.
    6. Psychology Majors and Minors at Coastal
      To complete your major at Coastal you are required to complete at-least 36 credit hours in approved courses. The school offers both a B.A. and B.S. degree.
      To complete a minor at coastal you must complete a total of at-least 22 credit hours in approved courses.
      There is also a Gerontology Certificate Program which is administered through the psychology department which is open to anyone either enrolled in a degree program at the university or anyone who holds a baccalaureate degree. This is a 21 credit-hour course.
    7. Psychology Organizations at Coastal
      PSI CHI is the National Honor Society in Psychology. The Coastal Carolina University Chapter of Psi Chi has been active since 1990. Membership in Psi Chi is open to students who are Psychology Majors or Minors and who have maintained a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
    8. Psychology Organizations at Coastal (cont)
      The Psychology Club is a student-run social organization open to all students with an interest in Psychology. The club sponsors fund raisers for local organizations, invites speakers to campus, and arranges trips to local and regional psychology conferences. The Psychology Club has been active since 1993.
