  3. Graduate Research Assistant
  4. Carbon Nanotube Properties
    • ELECTRONIC PROPERTIES
    • Metallic
    • Semiconducting
    • Ballistic Transport
    • MECHANICAL PROPERTIES
    • Can bend to high angles
    • Superior tensile strength
    • ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES
    • +ve change in resistivity at high temperatures while non-metallic behavior at low temperatures
    • Resistance dependent on voltage bias at low temperature due to joule heating and electron scattering.
  5. Carbon Nanotube Applications Logic Devices Ref.: Bachtold (1998), Derycke (2001), Javey (2002)
    • Inverter
    • NAND
    • NOR
    • Ring Oscillators
(Clockwise): Results of logic devices by gate field modulation of CNT. Schematic of inverter by changing p-type CNT into n-type by PMMA encapsulation
  6. Carbon Nanotube Applications NEMS (Nano Electro-Mechanical Switch) Ref.: C.M. Leiber (1999), S.W.Lee (2004), S. Sapmas(2003)
    • CNT-based NEMS have been demonstrated by various groups.
    • Prototype devices:
      • Oscillators
      • nanorelays
      • sensors
      • nanotweezers.
    • NEMS switches are believed to have
      • low masses
      • high mechanical quality factors
      • high isolation
      • lower losses
(Top): CNT nanotweezer. (Bottom): Schematic of cantilever type CNT based switch.
  7. Low-Level measurement Setup for Carbon Nanotube Use of Guard connections of SMU with triaxial cable & for voltage measurement in a coaxial cable Ref.: Keithley Low Level Measurement Handbook
    • Test setup for low level measurement signal was developed.
      • Current measurements as low as 1pA
      • Voltage measurements upto 100  V
      • Resistance measurements as high as 10G Ω
      • Use of faraday cage to eliminate high frequency disturbances, guard connection in triax cables.
      • Elimination of possible sources of disturbances and external noise interferences during test-setup.
      • Proper DAQ using LabVIEW and signal conditioning & filtering.
      • Avoid ground loops and proper isolation of various instruments as well as earthing to prevent ESD.
  8. Front Panel of Nano-switch Test Software
    • Setup to interface Semiconductor Parametric Analyzer, Function Generator, SMU, Lock-in Amplifier and Oscilloscope.
    • Statistical data analysis and plotting of test results on-the-go for precise control of testing parameters.
    • Proper record of time, location and chip details stored in the data file.
  9. Moment of electrostatic actuator for MEMS Modeling
  10. Dynamic Equation of Motion for Simulation - MEMS Switch
    • Fabrication of Electro-hydro dynamic Micropump of flexible parylene substrate for IC Fabrication coursework.
    • The flexible substrate technology can be used for building future flexible TFT screens.
    • Parylene-C is bio-compatible substance and can be used for biomedical devices.
