  • the rationale   The more able can cope with SG in one year   It allows for an extended approach to Higher English   Improved performance in Higher English
  • the SG course   folio   talking assessment   final exam
  • folio   There are 5 essays in the folio:   W1 – Discursive/Informative   W2 – Personal/Creative   R1 – Critical Essay   R2 – Critical Essay   R3 – Critical Essay
  • talk   Talk is assessed formally and informally throughout the year   There will be at least one formal talk/presentation before the end of March   Final talk grade is passed to SQA and forms 1/3rd of the overall grade
  • the final examination   26th April 2012   3 Papers   Writing (1¼ hours)   General Reading (50 mins)   Credit Reading (50 mins)
  • the timetable   The classes are working towards completing their 5 folio pieces by 22nd December   Initial talk assessments have started for some

  • FAQ•  What happens if the parent or child wishes to opt out of the fast track class?•  What happens if the pupil ‘fails’ the exam?•  What happens if the pupil gets a ‘2’ and wishes to resit to improve the grade?•  When will the decision be made about fast track pupils?•  What will happen to those deemed not capable – will they be moved to another class or stay with their colleagues?
