  • 6. Boolean operators Tropical AND = ALL terms must be AND present; narrows search Forests OR = Any of the terms may be present Tropical broadens search OR Forests NOT = Excludes specific search term Tropical narrows search NOT Forests
  • 7. Truncation * • Use (asterisk) * to retrieve variant forms of term nation* = nations, national Teen* = teens, teenager
  • 8. Parentheses ( ) • Use parentheses ( ) to group search terms (low income or single) and migrants (Urban heat island) and (Singapore or Malaysia)
