Sometimes, the students who want to take up nursing course are confused as to what nursing degree among its different kinds they will take. Most often, the two options that they consider the most is the ADN which takes 2 years in completing it and the BSN degree that actually takes 4 years before its completion. The two nursing degrees both lead to a designation such as the RN or Registered Nurse. But, crucial differences amid the two are present. Selecting one rather than the other will depend on several factors like monetary, the amount of time that will be spent along the educational program, as well as the career goals which are of long-term.

  • 1. Nursing Degrees- ADN or BSNDegree
  • 2. Sometimes, the students who want to take upnursing course are confused as to what nursingdegree among its different kinds they will take. Mostoften, the two options that they consider the most isthe ADN which takes 2 years in completing it andthe BSN degree that actually takes 4 years beforeits completion. The two nursing degrees both leadto a designation such as the RN or RegisteredNurse. But, crucial differences amid the two arepresent. Selecting one rather than the other willdepend on several factors like monetary, theamount of time that will be spent along theeducational program, as well as the career goalswhich are of long-term.
  • 3. The main differences amid these nursing degreeswould involve the longevity of time that is requiredin completing each program as well as the amount ofthe academic credits that will be required in eachdegree. Typically, the ADN degree takes 2 yearsbefore it is completed while the BSN degree takes 4years- plus the amount of time that will be taken infinishing the prerequisites that are essential inenrolling a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.(This might not be considered a factor to thoseindividuals who have already their BAs from anaccredited institution because the acceleratedprograms of BSN permit them in completing all therequirements in eighteen to twenty one months).
  • 4. While the nursing instructors believed in the pastthat ADN degree phased out, 66% of the recentnursing graduates are completing the trainingprograms that result in ADN degree. This Associatedegree continuously provides facilities for healthcare as well as competent nurses who could managea care to patients. Since there is an insufficientamount of nurses who are graduating from the BSNdegree program yearly to have met the needs of theindustry of health care, this 2-year Associate degreehave been expected in remaining very important forquite some time.
  • 5. However, theBSN degreeprogram aimsin preparingthe graduatesmore efficientlyin making acritical caredecision topatients as wellas inquestioning thedoctorswhenever theirordersappeared to beincorrect.
  • 6. The education that is being provided by the BSNdegree program is focusing more along criticalthinking, having the students exposed to morecultures and people, as well as in enhancing theirskills that are required along nursing management. Also, they offer more opportunities in improving theskills of students along patient assessment as well asin providing an improved examination of thepathophysiology of the different diseases. Inaddition, nurses having a BSN degree have easy timeto win a position in faculty teaching as well as inhigh-level administrative career.
  • 7. As a summary, the ADN degree usually pricesless and requires less time of completion. Hence, the graduates can start to work quickly along thefield. While the graduates of BSN degree willhave greater chances in advancing to more highpositions along the industry of health care. Also, they are more prepared in taking an advanceddegree of nursing to become nurse midwife, nurse practitioner or perhaps a nurse anesthetistin the future.
