  • Intro:I’m sure you can imagine why. It’s because the CIO in most enterprises is stuck between a proverbial rock and a hard place. Key Points:On the one hand, they know that consumerization is an undeniable force.But on the other hand they know they need to reduce costs, so they attempt to standardize services. Similarly, they must constantly attend to the existing infrastructure of legacy apps why striving to adopt for cost effective, and scalable cloud-based services. As you can see, that places the CIO in a pretty tough spot.Transition: Well before anyone despairs, there is hope. In fact, there is a massive transformation occurring.
  • Intro: Desktop virtualization addresses many of IT’s most pressing concerns simultaneously.Key Points:We can free people from the constraints of a more traditional enterprise computing model. Our approach is already enabling people to work and collaborate from anywhere, and to access any IT service from any device. It is a new, more people-centric approach that spans from desktop to datacenter. IT has the ability to centralize, virtualize and deliver apps, desktops and data with greater control, security, and efficiency and ultimately lower operating costs. Any data center becomes a delivery center and where all aspects of computing become cloud-based services. For IT, Citrix technology enables a virtual datacenter – where computing resources are always available to users with the security, performance and control that IT requires to manage desktops and apps.   • As enterprise networks continue to scale in an-unplanned manner, IT has to deal with a variety of locations, limitations and policies around branch offices. The general rule is supporting branch environments is that 20% of the locations incur 80% of the network connectivity and support costs. The remote office in Dubai just can’t put out a competitive RFP for Ethernet providers and expect a competitive price. These stranded locations have typically outsourced their network support or rely on few, poorly trained staff. The users of that branch however, expect performance as though they were on desktop on the LAN. Congestion in buffer queues, remote print jobs and batch processing all suffer over distance and lower the quality of network experience. Layering support HDX environment over a large scale WAN only exacerbates the problem of latency, congestion and response time.   • Per analysts, general organizational and IT trends, and what we’re finding from our XD customers - WAN optimization is essential for adopting virtual desktops as a core technology that serves the entire organization.ICA is the best protocol for single-user access to virtual desktops and apps. When multiple users come into play at a given location, the network capacity is quickly overrun due to the competing requests for data located across the WAN. Additionally, problematic networks with latency, lossiness or congestion may cause an unacceptable user experience. While XD/ICA is clearly the best technology delivering the best results for virtual desktops across the WAN that doesn’t mean the end-users will accept performance lower than their traditional localized installation.
  • In a nutshell, Branch Repeater is all about high performance for all end-users – anywhere, on any device. That means that the solution are offering your customers or just benefit to XenDesktop but also in the most other apps they have deployed .

  • A core differentiation that Citrix enjoys over competition is the granular view into the HDX traffic. This enables users to set more granular policies that support various users and applications. For example, most enterprise classify SAP traffic as critical, but only a certain times in the month or quarter. Business units that need to have guaranteed delivery for end of quarter order processing or other business events can have their traffic marked as higher priority- even across hosted virtual desktop environment. From an IT perspective,A good example of this would be auto discovery and XenDesktop groups imagine if you have the ability to assure that every executive in your company always had optimal priority regardless of where they’re located it be a good thing right ? You can apply priority based on any of the three factors including desktop group name published app name or ICA priority tags
  • The job of analyzing your network identifying and defining classifications is much easier with over 500 predefined application classifiers . Any application is not automatically recognized by the quality of service engine, Can be individually The find and defaulted so that the quality of service engine can apply priorities to the application . By default all applications have a medium priority so they’ll be handled equally across the wide area network . You can also take the existing application classifiers and change defaults To meet the specific requirements of your network. Wouldn’t it be great to slow down any non-business app that causes congestion? I remember the situation at a NYC bank – that will go nameless – noticing their bandwidth use between New York and London went way up first thing in the morning and during lunch. I turned out the traders were playing Doom with their London counterparts. When they cut off TCP port 666, the traders screamed and forced the network guys to reinstate it. With BR, they could have just given in a very low priority.
  • The problem other vendors have with HDX is they take a very superficial view of the protocol. BR opens up the ICA protocol revealing the various components. In the example on the left, you see the actual applications in use and their percentage of bandwidth inside the Citrix session. This is an extremely valuable tool for network and Citrix administrators. With the competition they can just report on the “blob” of the Citrix traffic, but not what’ in side it.You can assign priority by XenApp published app or XenDesktop group.

  • Branch Repeater and Repeater are available in variety of form-factors and models based on the target application. Appliance models are primarily sized based on a customer’s WAN bandwidth requirements. The next few slides will focus on how to position each of these products.
  • When compared to the competition, Citrix Branch Repeater is the only XenDesktop and XenApp fluent solution in the market place. No other solution has such unprecedented visibility into XenDesktop and XenApp traffic resulting in superior acceleration of print, video and file traffic. Competitors such as Expand, Riverbed and Cisco lack the native integration and can’t see individual ICA virtual channels hence treating all ICA traffic the same.
  • Based on the tried and tested Corinth 11500 and 13500 hardware platforms. Significant changes have been made to accommodate the demands of Optimization. Additional storage capacity comprised of 48 GB of ram and 2.6 TB of SSD have been added. The addition of SSD significantly improves the performance of Disk based Compression. The additional available ports and the Netscaler capabilities add some flexibility to the deployment of the Repeater SDX. We now have 10GigE ports as well as Eight 1GigE ports up from 4 ports in the 8000 series appliances. It is important to note that Fail to Wire has not yet been implemented into the SDX but that we can use the HA mode available in Netscaler for Failover. We can also use many of the other advanced features of Netscaler to assist in deployment in complicated network environments environments.
  • Each model can be upgraded via “pay as you grow” license upgrade to any higher level model. The pricing for Pay/Grow upgrades is the same as existing NetScaler models: the upgrade price is equal to the difference in price of the two models plus 25% of this difference. For example, to upgrade from the MPX 11500 to the new MPX 20500 on Enterprise Edition the price is $181,250. Each lower rated model can also be temporarily (90 day) upgraded to the new MPX 20500 via BurstPack upgrade licenses. The BurstPack upgrade price is approximately 35% of the difference in price from the lower model to the new MPX 20500. For instance, a Burst license from the MPX 11500 Enterprise to the MPX 20500 on Enterprise is $50,750.
