It is a sort of quest forthe Holy Grail. How many times did you hear someone tell you that they had a great idea for afabulous product or service, one which will for sure make them rich?Quite often, however, those great plans don’t really come up as planned, or don’teven see the light of day. Why? Well, in fact, it’s easier to have great ideas than to bring them to liveaccording to plan. Let me correct that: it’s much easier to have great ideas than tobring them to live according to plan.A great idea is something we can have at least once amonth! Yes, it’s true that some great companies orproducts started as a quick drawing on a napkin. Theproblem is that it takes a lot of work to bring ideasfrom napkins to reality. You have to have enoughstamina and focus to never let go of your objectives; beimaginative when you need to overcome the obstacles;and have a team prepared to deal withmultidisciplinary issues, from finances to legal, fromsales to marketing, from project management to human resources management. That demands a lot more from you than writing down a good idea on a napkin. In other words, I think great products and services are usually a mix between greatideas and great execution. My educated guess is that the mix is 5% of great ideasand 95% of a consistent, hands-on, relentless execution.Frotcom’s great idea has always been to create user-friendly effective tools for theoptimization of our customers’ fleets. But this idea would be not enough, had it notbeen for the systematic focus and persistent effort of all stakeholders involved inthe project, from the initial founders to everybody currently involved in theoperations, in all the countries where the project is being delivered. Two clear examples of this are depicted in this issue of Roadmap. After a few yearsof a great work in the Romanian market, Frotcom Romania is growing and moved toa new office. Frotcom Sierra Leone has face lifted its fleet and is now causing animmediate impression amidst Freetown’s traffic. That is why if I had to choose between a perfect business plan with a poor executionteam and an average business plan with a perfect execution, I would surely pick thelatter.Valério MarquesCEO - Frotcom InternationalA note from the editor – If you would like to have your own say in the next edition of this newsletter please donot hesitate to get in touch at roadmap@frotcom.com.IMay2013In this issueCase StudyMed Frigo is in command!New featuresImprovements to theSearch directions mechanismNew extensionsto the Corridor Exit AlarmNews and eventsFrotcom Romaniaopens new officeFrotcom Sierra Leoneturns its vehiclesinto mobile billboardsThis and much more…

The company offers high standard International and National Transportrefrigeration services and Integrated Logistics services. The fleet uses state-of-the-art technology and is perfectly maintained. The primaryconcern is to ensure that it is constantly renewed in order to meet all European andInternational standards. With the aim of gaining full online control of its fleet, Med Frigo selected Frotcom.According to Mr. Sotiris Marinakis,Logistics Manager at Med Frigo,“With the adoption of Frotcom andthe cooperation of Frotcom Greece,we realized we have had severalbenefits and explored new reportingpossibilities, facilitating the bettercommand of our fleet”.With scheduled departures 365 days per year and an average of 450 refrigeratedtruckloads per month, Med Frigo distributes to more than 400 destinations inEurope every week (Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, England, Germany, Holland,Austria, Belgium and Switzerland). For a complete profile of Med Frigo visit the website here.Roadmap congratulates the Frotcom Greece team for this successful project!Did you know?In the European Union, compulsory tyre labels wereintroduced to help shed lighton how tyres performThe EU regulation sees tyres rated inthree areas: fuel efficiency, wet gripand external noise. On 1stNovember 2012 the EUregulation on labelling of tyres isapplicable. The label providesinformation on fuel efficiency, wetgrip and external rolling noisethrough clear pictograms. The labelallows consumers to make informedchoices when buying tyres, rankedon a scale from A (best) to G (bad).LegislationThe Regulation (EC) No 1222/2009on the labelling of tyres (amendedby Regulation 228/2011 andRegulation 1235/2011) aims toprovide end-users of vehicles withclear and relevant information aboutthe quality of the tyre, and to guidethem towards choosing a productwhich is more fuel efficient, hasbetter wet braking and is less noisy. To know more about this legislation, click here:http://ec.europa.eu/energy/efficiency/tyres/labelling_en.htmMr. Sotiris Marinakis, Logistics Manager at Med Frigo.

This iscommonly called the traveling salesman problem orTSP.The new Search directions mechanism allowscompanies to reorder the visiting points and thereturn to the origin point (if specified by thecompany), generating an optimized path. This is now available in Frotcom accounts usingGoogle Maps.New extensions to the Corridor Exit AlarmThe corridor exit alarm was created in Frotcom to detect when vehicles leave thepaths they were supposed to stick to. Sometimes fleet managers or even companyowners want to make sure that a vehicle is following the path which was assigned toit. This alarm lets them know as soon as the vehicle abandons the right path.Until now corridors would be created and used only to track one vehicle. Nowcorridors are saved for future use as well. This allows companies to apply the samecorridors to several vehicles, without having to redefine them every time.A new map option also allows companies to see the existing corridors. Their colourscan vary, depending on whether they are active or not, and also if one or morevehicles have failed to travel inside the corridor. From now on it is also possible tointeract with visible corridors by right clicking on it.Tip of the monthSubsistence allowances reportSome companies have to calculatethe subsistence allowances to pay totheir drivers, when they go to othercountries or regions. So, how to generate the report? In the Reports section, select theSubsistence allowances report:In the configuration panel, enter yourspecifications:The report will be generated. Foreach vehicle/driver, the followinginformation is shown:Week day - Day of the weekDate – DateDriver - If more than one driver drove thisvehicle in the row “day + area”, only thedriver executing the last trip in the row“day + area” will be displayed here.Arrival in area - Time of day when thevehicle arrived to the area; or 00:00 if thevehicle was already in the area when thatday started.Exit from area - Time of day when thevehicle left the area; or 23:59 if thevehicle was still in the area when that dayended.Area - Name of area. Usually a Country, although you can specify other types ofareas: Districts, Places and Zones.Stay - Total duration of the stay in thatarea. This is not the driving time, it’s thecomplete duration of the stay, withvehicle moving or stopped. You can also Export to Excel.

The new office is stillin Piatra Neamt, in the historical region of eastern Romania. The new office hasperfect conditions to receive customers, host meetings and make demos.ROADMAP congratulates Frotcom Romania for this important step.Frotcom Sierra Leone turns its vehicles into mobile billboardsFrotcom Sierra Leone decided to print Frotcom’s logo in its vehicles: 3 motorcyclesand one big 4x4. What better way to display Frotcom’s company image, than byplacing the logo and slogan on its own vehicles?According to Penny Doyle, Director at Frotcom Sierra Leone, “The motorcycles havebeen fantastic tools for the technicians because they can move more efficiently tovisit customers for installations, inspections or just for courtesy visits. Themotorcycles also travel up country to the mining areas where many Frotcom SierraLeone’s clients are based. The 4x4 vehicle is used for client visits and it is probablythe only vehicle in Freetown with signage of this sort, which literally turns heads.”With its bold design, Frotcom is conquering the minds and hearts of users. Byestablishing Frotcom’s brand identity in the vehicles, the company will ensure thatmore people are aware of the business and more people will consequently considerFrotcom for tracking services needed.Roadmap congratulates Frotcom Sierra Leone for this initiative.Next, on RoadmapNews and events, more new Frotcom featuresand tips will be presented. This and more, so don’t missthe next issue of Roadmap.
