  3. 3. Welcome to AmaWaterways Front Cover: AmaCerto cruising past the Budapest Parliament Building on the Danube When we founded AmaWaterways in 2002, our dream was to provide the most exceptional river cruise experience possible. Our company has grown substantially since then and our commitment to excellence continues to endure. AmaWaterways leads the way in river cruising thanks to our fleet of custom-designed ships, premium amenities and warm, attentive service. We were the first river cruise line to offer Twin Balconies, La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs-inspired cuisine, guided bicycle excursions, Wi-Fi and a complimentary Infotainment system featuring in-room Internet access, on-demand movies and music. This year, we have exciting new itineraries, another new theme cruise and a broader menu of shore excursions, making 2014 the perfect year for a river cruise. Every ship in our award-winning, 12-vessel European fleet provides the signature experience our guests have come to expect from AmaWaterways. Our newest additions are the 164-passenger AmaSonata and AmaReina, sister ships to the AmaPrima and AmaCerto, our largest and most imaginative ships. These beautiful vessels feature Twin Balcony staterooms (an AmaWaterways exclusive), a choice of indoor and outdoor dining venues, a heated swimming pool and a stunning glass elevator. For intrepid guests seeking to further expand their horizons, our AmaVoyages division provides a number of unbeatable itineraries in Portugal, Russia, Vietnam/Cambodia and Africa on five distinctive vessels. As we see it, there is no better way to experience the soul of a destination than on a leisurely river cruise, immersed in history, culture and breathtaking natural beauty. Our passion for providing life-enriching river cruise vacations remains as strong as ever, and we sincerely hope to welcome you aboard soon. Rudi Schreiner President OUR CRUISE MANAGERS IN EUROPE ARE CONSIDERED THE BEST IN THE INDUSTRY Representing the family ownership (from left to right) James Murphy and daughter Susan; Kristin Karst and Rudi Schreiner; Louise Tandy and father Geoff McGeary

On our European voyages, we limit capacity to no more than 164 guests in order to provide ultra-attentive service and a more generous amount of personal space. AmaWaterways President Rudi Schreiner is a trained architect with an eye for detail and a flair for transforming river cruise ships into upscale floating hotels. A true travel industry visionary, his meticulous attention to detail has propelled our fleet to its current award-winning status, earning accolades from media, travel consultants and satisfied guests around the world. Each of our elegant ships in Europe is designed with its own color palette and a sophisticated décor that incorporates luxurious fabrics and vibrant contemporary art. Our thoughtfully conceived public areas include such things as stylish lounges, multiple dining venues, richly paneled wine rooms, spa facilities and pools with swim-up bars, as well as cozy spots for quiet contemplation. Our spacious staterooms and suites are equally luxurious, with sleek marble-appointed bathrooms that feature crisp white walls, art-glass tiles, dark cabinetry, multi-jet shower heads and glass-enclosed showers. With underbed storage units, Twin Balconies and other ingenious design elements, your private accommodations can be a comfortable and serene sanctuary. You will be surrounded by beauty and luxury from the moment you step aboard.

A native of Vienna, Rudi Schreiner introduced the concept of modern-day river cruising to the travel market in 1994. Kristin Karst contributed extensive sales and customer service experience acquired in Europe and North America. Jimmy Murphy brought many years of expertise as the founder of the highly successful tour operator Brendan Vacations. Their combined know-how and “family owned and operated” style of management have allowed AmaWaterways to become the most distinctive river cruise line in the industry. We believe in treating guests like family, so when you call our offices during our extended business hours, you will always get a real person – never an automated system. On board, our friendly and resourceful Cruise Managers are there to answer your questions and cater to your every need throughout your cruise-tour. When it comes to well-designed ships, upscale amenities, top-notch service and cuisine, and compelling itineraries and shore excursions, AmaWaterways is in a class by itself. Our sincere love of river cruising and our dedication to our guests will ensure your river cruise is the vacation of a lifetime.

It begins with a champagne welcome as you step aboard and meet our courteous crew and your fellow passengers, people you will consider friends by the end of your journey. You will also meet a personable and knowledgeable Cruise Manager who will be with you every step of the way, even on your optional pre-cruise or post-cruise land program. It is this personal attention to detail that distinguishes AmaWaterways from all the rest. We carefully hone our itineraries to maximize your enjoyment of the scenery, history and culture of your chosen destination. Marvel at the ever-changing views through the panoramic windows in your ship’s Main Lounge or from its expansive outdoor decks. Visit famous “must-see” landmarks and explore delightful hidden gems. Taste bold new flavors and delicious regional specialties with menus designed by our team of classically-trained chefs. You will have ample time for socializing and relaxation, too. Our ships feature comfortable lounges, lively bar areas, swimming pools or whirlpools, salons and fitness rooms. In the evening, enjoy after-dinner dancing, cocktails and onboard entertainment provided by talented local musicians and performers. At the end of the day, you will be pampered with turn-down service, plush linens and peace and quiet for a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow, another day of adventure awaits! THE amavoyages EXPERIENCE We also offer spectacular river cruise journeys in Portugal, Russia, Vietnam/Cambodia and Africa through our AmaVoyages division. The ships, services and amenities of our AmaVoyages itineraries are the best available in these regions and differ somewhat from our European cruises. Please turn to page 110 for more details.

Our European ships feature comfortable and elegantly-appointed public spaces where you can savor unforgettable views of fairytale castles and ancient fortresses, glittering urban skylines, mist-covered mountains and steep hillside vineyards. The incredible wrap-around scenery will stir your imagination and lift your spirits. For the ultimate 360° perspective, head on up to the Sun Deck. Sip a glass of wine and bask in the sunshine as your ship glides through dramatic river gorges. Read in a lounge chair under a shady canopy, take a lap around the walking track or a dip in the swimming pool, play a game of giant chess, or enjoy a relaxing whirlpool . Four of our newest ships – AmaSonata, AmaReina, AmaPrima and AmaCerto – have an al fresco dining terrace protected by a glass windbreaker. Linger as long as you wish and never miss a moment of your breathtaking surroundings.

This society was founded in Paris in 1950 to honor the traditions of the Royal Guild of Goose Roasters, originally chartered in the 13th century. This guild was once so renowned that King Louis XII of France granted it its own coat of arms, complete with two roasting spits, four larding needles and hearth flames. The Guild of Roasters thrived for four centuries, until the French Revolution brought it to an end. The society was reborn in modern times and rechristened La Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, and has since expanded to include professional chefs, restaurateurs and hoteliers around the world. Membership is by invitation only, extended only to those possessing world-class culinary acumen. All of our ships in Europe are members of La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs and our onboard culinary team is united by a desire to share their expert knowledge of wine and fine dining with you. amawaterways president Rudi Schreiner at the induction into la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs

Guests aboard our ships in Europe may choose from a variety of dining venues, such as a wine bar, an intimate Erlebnis Chef’s Table Restaurant with a special tasting menu, a delightful al fresco dining terrace, or Mozart Café, a Viennese-style coffeehouse offering convenient all-day dining. Our Executive Chef Primus Perchtold, winner of three gold medals at the European Championship of Culinary Art, oversees the menus aboard every AmaWaterways cruise in Europe. You will find one of his recipes on your pillow each night, just in case you want to recreate his culinary magic at home. All meals on board are made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible. Every morning, enjoy a generous breakfast buffet with sparkling wine, made-to-order cooked items and freshly baked breads and pastries. Our lavish lunch buffet includes delicious salads, pasta dishes, hot entrées and desserts, as well as full menu service. Stop by the Main Lounge for a light lunch or afternoon snack of sandwiches, pastries and cookies. Dinner is an exquisitely prepared and presented multi-course affair, a pleasure for the eyes as well as the palate. Both lunch and dinner are accompanied by a choice of fine regional wines, beer and soft drinks, all served on an unlimited and complimentary basis. NIGHTLY ENTERTAINMENT The elegant lounges aboard our ships are used for lectures, shore excursion talks, after-dinner dancing and an eclectic schedule of nightly entertainment, from Bavarian folk tunes to classical quartets to “Sound of Music” sing-alongs. The lounges are also the perfect place to relax over a cocktail or a specialty coffee, or to have a late-night snack after an evening at a concert or the ballet.

These extra-spacious staterooms are among the largest in the industry (210-320 square feet) and feature a French Balcony with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and a protective railing, as well as a separate step-out balcony. Enjoy sunshine, fresh air and stunning river views in complete privacy. Need a bit more room? Opt for one of our 255-350 square foot suites. There are only three or four suites on any vessel in our European fleet, so early reservations are highly recommended. For the ultimate in space and comfort, these suites provide a sitting area with a sofa, ample closet space, and a large marble-appointed bathroom with a glass-enclosed shower and separate tub. The furniture in each stateroom was thoughtfully conceived to provide stylish functionality. On our European ships, the queen-sized bed can be transformed into two twin beds, each with high thread-count linens and an ingenious storage unit that slides underneath, ideal for stowing bulky luggage. There is a desk/vanity area with a large mirror, bedside tables with storage, a cozy sitting area with two chairs, a wide closet, an alcove with additional shelves and a small refrigerator stocked with bottles of water replenished daily at no extra charge. Every stateroom and suite also has a flat-screen TV that can be used to access our complimentary Infotainment system, which offers a selection of first-run Hollywood movies, satellite TV and music channels. The flat-screen doubles as a computer monitor to access complimentary in-room Internet. Another ingenious design element on our newest ships – a pane of glass between the bathroom and bedroom that makes the most of the natural light and can be transformed from a clear window to an opaque privacy screen with the touch of a button. Staterooms also include individual controls for heat and air-conditioning so guests can adjust the temperature as they wish.

Some city tours are conducted on motor coaches, but more often they are on foot for a truly up-close and immersive sightseeing experience. You might explore palaces and museums, learn about winemaking, visit an olive farm in Provence, wander Monet’s breathtaking gardens in Giverny, or admire the medieval library and religious relics housed within Melk Abbey. Our small group shore excursions provide memorable experiences with knowledgeable and entertaining local guides. These guided tours are an ideal way to get a feel for a region’s culture and heritage, and we take great pride in facilitating authentic encounters and in-depth experiences for our guests. An AmaWaterways river cruise is designed to be as relaxing or as active as you want it to be. To better accommodate your personal preferences, we offer a menu of choices whenever possible, as well as three different levels of walking tours: “Gentle Walkers” go at a leisurely pace, “Regular Walkers” proceed at an average clip, and “Active Walkers” like to cover more ground. In addition, we often offer a “Late Starters” group for those who prefer to sleep in a bit. Your sightseeing experience will be enhanced with one of our lightweight personal audio headsets, which allows you to wander at your own pace and never miss a word your guide says. And of course, if you prefer to stay on board the ship to relax, read or enjoy a spa treatment, that’s always an excellent option, too!

  29. 29. INTRODUCTION AmaSonata • AmaReina • AmaPrima • AmaBella • AmaDolce AmaCello • AmaLegro • AmaDagio • AmaVida • AmaKatarina limited edition TOURS AmaWaterways guests have a wide range of interests and we seek to accommodate them with a choice of Limited Edition Tours, unique shore excursions with a very specific focus. These special interest excursions are ideal for guests who have already visited a certain destination or simply want an alternative to our regularly scheduled guided city tour. Our culinary-themed guided walking tours provide a delectable taste of Europe with expert local guides. Most of our cruise itineraries in Europe include at least one of these unique food-themed shore excursions, ideal for gourmands, aspiring “foodies” or simply those who love to eat delicious food. You might sample regional specialties at the Les Halles market in Lyon, visit a 200-year-old mustard mill, or try your hand at knotting a pretzel at a German bakery. On other tours, you will taste Belgian waffles, Dutch cheeses or smoked German sausages. Chocolate lovers can learn how to pair wine with dark chocolate or indulge in a slice of sinfully rich Sachertorte, Vienna’s renowned chocolate cake. Bon appetit! For something a bit more active, guests on our European voyages may take a guided bike tour that combines cycling with another popular activity – sampling local food and wine. Looking for a hands-on experience with local handicrafts? We offer tours that will have you rolling up your sleeves to paint a ceramic tile or make Beemster cheese. Other tours allow you to explore a city’s “hidden treasures,” visit the state-of-the-art Audi factory in Germany, or perhaps learn how cork or how cologne is made. There’s something for everyone. All Limited Edition Tours are complimentary. We encourage you to reserve a spot as early as possible, ideally via our website prior to your departure. You are also welcome to sign up for tours once on board your ship. WWW. A M A W ATERWAY S . CO M | 2 7

We pioneered the concept of carrying bicycles aboard our ships, and remain the only river cruise line that carries more than two dozen bicycles and helmets for our guests’ complimentary use. Venture forth on your own two-wheeled adventure! GUIDED BICYCLE TOURS AmaWaterways also offers complimentary guided bicycle tours in many European cities. In Germany, for example, your local guide will lead the way through the postcard-perfect landscape between Würzburg to Kitzingen. In Austria, you can bike along the Danube between the historic towns of Dürnstein and Melk, riding parallel to the ship as your onboard friends wave from the top deck. Some of our bike tours combine a scenic ride with delicious stops along the way, perhaps to have a refreshing ice-cold beer or to sample coffee and cake at Vienna’s Klosterneuberg Abbey. Whether you join a guided tour or borrow one of our bikes to explore on your own, a bicycle offers a fresh and fun way to “do as the locals do” and enjoy complete travel freedom.

We have a well-earned reputation for sincerely listening to our guests and excellent service remains our top priority. Simply put, we go to great lengths to treat every guest like a member of our extended AmaWaterways family. Our intimate ships carry a very limited number of passengers, which allows us the luxury of getting to know you and your personal preferences, such as the way you order your omelet or your favorite drink at dinner. Those delicious cookies you like so much? We’ll set aside a few extra for you to enjoy with your afternoon cup of tea. Chilled towels and a refreshing drink await you after a warm day of sightseeing. We even have complimentary postcards for our guests in Europe, which we are happy to stamp and mail for you free of charge. We recruit our resourceful, personable, English-speaking Cruise Managers from Europe and North America, hand-selecting the crème de la crème of the travel and hospitality industries. The friendly crew members on every AmaWaterways ship were rigorously trained to maintain our supremely high standards, and their warm and welcoming smiles will make you feel right at home.
