    Notes on slide 1

Thank you for this opportunity. Iwould like to briefly introduce some of the aspects of the mobile advertisement and SN in Japan.I have livedin Japan for sometime.I have finished PhD in Tokyo; and am now working at the University of Electro CommunicationsMy research interests are developing data mining methods for practical problemsSocial Media provide plenty of interesting datasets and related problemsThe slides are already available at the wiki of this workshop

As you may know Japanese consumers are very demandingFor them both Aesthetics and functionality are very importantMobile manufacturers try their best to satisfy the consumer needsFor example recently a cell phone with the solar panel have been launchedAnother interesting applications is a UV censors which is very popular with the female population

Mobile companies also come up with some rather creative servicesJapan has a very large senior population who are not very savvy with the use of new technologiesSo the mobile operator has introduce a special picture frame with mobile chipPhoto could be taken from a cell phone and then effortlessly transmitted over cell network and will be displayed on the picture frame without any imput required from the end userThis simple service have made life of many senior people a lot more joyful

Another service is provided by utilizing the IC chip for many different servicesYour cell phone could be linked to your credit card account and used as a form of paymentYou can even use it at most vending machinesYou can use is as train passto check in for the flights and as a key to your homeIf you loose your mobile it could be deactivated right away, the only trick is that you have call the company

Now In Japan it is hard to see ad without a qrcodeQr code is basically a bar code but contains a lot more data about 4,000 charactersMost often it used to encode a url with some additional parameters which could be used for trackingso if you want more information you simply point your cell in the direction of qr code and it will be scanned in under a secondYou may use it to provide additional information about the products being advertisedOn the bottom it will provide the building map so that you can easily find the office that you need
