    1. Why is it important?
      • Data collection is a TOOL that helps drive decision making
      • Helps those working with students to meet the standards for the accountability on the student’s IEP
      • IDEA 2004 Revision for special Education, REQUIRES that the response to the intervention is shown by DATA
    2. How is it used
      • to DEFINE the problem
      • to Analyze the situation
      • to Evaluate Effectiveness of the plan
    3. Define the Problem
      • Requires a SPECIFIC definition
      • Prepare a BASELINE
      • TEAM WORK
      • Look at the FUNCTION for the behavior
    4. Frequency/Event Recording
      • Use when the behavior can be easily counted
      • Define the behavior
      • Record the date
      • Record the time that the behavior begins
      • Record the time that the behavior ends
    5. Charting/Graphing
      • Provides a VISUAL image of the behavior
      • Allow you to SEE what the behavior really looks like
    6. A PERMANENT PRODUCT
      • Remember that your data is a PERMANENT product
      • that a legal decision may be made based on your data
      • Keep it simple and review often
